One of my Home Help ladies is a born and bred 'bottom ender'.
She has told me that the site of this 6 year old housing estate was the location of Clayton Laundry which burn down when she was aged 10 - 30 years ago.
I have been unable to find anything about Clayton Laundry on the web., and would like any personal anecdotes about it if you have them.
When Dave recently posted pics of the river nearby, I asked him about this feature I had seen on Google Maps

It is logical to presume that it was a waste water outlet for the laundry, would be nice to confirm or deny that. Such primitive pollution of water courses was tolerated 30 years ago.
