Radcliffe sign Gordon Armstrong

The club annouced today they have signed former Bury, Burnley and Sunderland defender Gordon Armstrong. The experienced defender was in the conference last season with Accrington Stanley, but could not go full time this coming season due to work commitments.

Speaking of the signing manager Glendon said 'I have been looking to bring in an experienced defender for a long time now and players with Gordon's experience and quality don't become available very often. At 36 years of age and still fit enough for at least a couple of seasons at this level, he brings with him the know how which I hope will rub off on the younger players and I am sure he will have an enourmous effect on and off the pitch, also after speaking to Coley and indeed Stan Ternant, they both could not speak highly enough of him and thought it was an excellent aquisition for us'. For the record Armstong started at Sunderland in 1985 staying there for 11 years upto 1996 making 349 apperances and scoring 50 goals and appearing in the F.A.Cup final. He then moved to Bury where he stayed until 1998 clocking up a further 78 apperances, scoring 6 goals. For a fee of £40.000 he followed Stan Ternant to Burnley making 113 apperances over three years scoring 4 goals. Last season he moved from Burnley to Accrington Stanley in the Conference.
