They are saying on Sky Sports News that the 10 point penalty takes effect now not next season, bet Southampton have something to say about that, it needs to be sorted out so its fare to everybody with the same rules not mix and match all the time, typical bloody FA, useless

Re: Stocport County

personally i have never thought a points penalty was fair, all it does is penalize the "Fans" n "Players" whilst the muppets that have caused the crap sip their Gin @ Tonics. gaol a few of them fer 5 years n clubs would soon be run sensibly.

IF They are safe, then the points must be taken off next season. That is the only fair way... Southampton F.C. Have not even gone into administration themselves, so how can they be deducted points It is a good job we have not lost any points because of Fraser Eagle going bust...

Re: Stocport County

forget points deductions - if you go into admin you should be automatically relegated one division. If you are relegated from the league you are playing in then you would effectively go down two leagues.

Possibly a little harsh Macca, it is not always (As Cashy has said) "The Clubs Fault" points deductions do give the clubs - Bournemouth, Rotherham - a chance.

Re: Stocport County

So go on, whats the answer???

It's harsh on the fans!!! OK Luton went into admin after having "bent" the rules on paying players, yet they remain in the Football Leage.

Rotherham, Leicester, Leeds, Bury Bournemouth, Darlington etc all went into admin but kept their ground and status.

What did ASFC and Aldershot do, THEY RESIGNED, had their records explunged and started at the bottom.

So if clubs don't want a points deduction no issues, resign and start again!!

Thats Southampton in the Hampshire League, Darlo in the Northern League Div 2' Luton in the Combined Counties and Stockport in the North West Counties Division 2!!!

Maybe harsh, but do it a few times and then boards/ chairman would start spending what they've got!!

Re: Stocport County

I dont think its unfair. What I think is unfair is when clubs like Darlington can spend £1.9m on wages despite making losses of £3m

Re: Stockport County

The thing is with this points deduction thing the people who control the clubs can pick and chose when they want to go into admin in order to benefit the their financial interests, but whats a club without supporters. Okay clubs can't run without finance, but rules need to be set in tablets of stone which all clubs have to adhere to, not the mish mash we see today

my solution is simple southern red, gaol those who display no regard for the financial stability of the clubs, they would soon be living within their means,

Re: Stocport County

Says on BBC website that the deduction takes place now too.
My understanding is that if the club is in a relegation place the deduction is suspended until the end of the season (like Southampton).
If the club is subsequently relegated then they will start the next season -10 points.
If the club finishes above the relegation places then the 10 point deduction is then applied and if that means they are then in a relegation place then they drop down and start the following season on 0 points.
If the club are over 10 points above relegation (like Stockport) then the points deduction is applied immediately.

Well that's how I read it!!
So basically Southampton have nothing to complain about. I also think that they were right to be deducted points as their 'parent company' SLH effectively paid the bills.

What gets my goat is administrations are happening all too often these days within football and 10 points is not enough punishment imho. I agree with southernred who says the club must be made to start at the bottom of the pile again. If there are money troubles then surely doing that reduces costs considerably and brings in revenue from the sale of players who'll want to remain in the higher leagues and thus helps to build the foundations of the club back up. No club is big enough either.
