The defence are getting some stick, but when you look at the table the real reason is evident.
1. Two teams above us have a worse goal difference than ours.
2. Three teams below have a better goal difference than ours.
3. We have the lowest goals scored bar one - the bottom club.
Of the above facts, no.3 is the most relevant.
We just can't buy a goal at the moment & is the main reason we are where we are.
They say attack is the best form of defence, but we retreat into our own half as soon as opponents regain possession, allowing teams to build attacks unopposed.
Our forwards should be harrying opposing defenders & keepers at all times.
Frankly, I'd swap Zanzala, Smyth & Armstrong for one Paul Mullin.
But keep Billy .... ? He’s a main culprit. Unfit and hold up play recently non existent.

Re: The Scunthrope game.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with constructive criticism.
There’s absolutely everything wrong with saying things you don’t mean.
Being critical doesn’t mean you’re not behind the team.

No my friend, I'm talking about the Stanley legend Paul Mullin who, for those with short memories, scored a total of 79 goals between 2003 - 08.
The only diving Paul did was when he slipped on the soap in the shower.

Rather harsh 28 to brand Billy as 'a main culprit' of our current demise.
Is this the same Billy who scored 25 goals last year to help us win the league.
Everyone is mystified by his apparent loss of form, but I don't feel that loss is in any way due to a lack of effort on his part.
It's not just Billy who isn't scoring, his team mates aren't exactly helping matters.
League 1 is a big step up from 2, made more difficult by the loss of some key players.
It will take time for the new squad to gel but we have little option but to persevere.
If he scores 1 goal for us next week that wins the game, he'll be our hero again.

Read what I put. A main culprit not the main culprit.
Quite frankly what he did last season is consigned to the history books so let’s get real and talk about the here and now.
You were ready and willing to cast away Zanzala Armstrong and Smyth weren’t you ?
Billy is not a Demi God.
He is currently an under performing centre forward with a poor goals return. Take away spot kicks and what is left ?
I stress not the culprit, a culprit - one of a few.

Re: The Scunthrope game.

For the record I take your comments about Zanzala Armstrong and Smyth harsh.
Armstrong had minimal minutes on the pitch Saturday and put in far more than Billy did over 90.
If you were there (doubt it) tell me I’m wrong.

Re: The Scunthrope game.

It's all about survival now this season we have good league 2 players but that is what they are they are all struggling to adapt to league 1 we just need a bit of luck against the other clubs around us that also need points and we could stay up, if we do next season is the yardstick Coleman wants to assemble a squad capable of a top 2 side his words great if he does but we will always be constrained by the budget.

Re: The Scunthrope game.

as we sit just 3 points above the relegation, I just had a look at the relegation odds
wombles 1/20 gills 5/6 bantams 1/1 dale 5/4 saddlers 15/8 shrews 2/1 gas 9/4 pilgrims 11/4 yellows 4/1 scunny 8/1 and stanley at 9/1

well at least the bookies see us pretty safe

Hope it’s not the same bookies who had Stanley as relegation certs at the start of last season.

I'm not twisting your words - I quoted you verbatim.
Here are some more of your 'quotes' from Saturday;
#13 'have no idea where to start after that inept display 1 to 11'
#25. You specifically criticise Hughes, Donacien, Johnson, Richards-Everton & Maxted before stating;
'But let’s be clear I could go through the lot of them and struggle to find a good word anywhere'.
I can’t think of a worse performance since I started watching'.
#36. 'He is currently an under performing centre forward with a poor goals return'.
After damning the whole team, what do you suggest? Drop the lot & field our youth team?
You're right, I wasn't at the game (I never inferred I was) & had to rely on the stats, which proved we had - 53% possession, 17 shots & 10 corners.
Yes we lost, but hardly the doomsday scenario you describe.
My comment about Zanzala, Armstrong & Smyth being swapped for Paul Mullin was intended as 'tongue-in-cheek'.
The latter 2 strikers are so far unproven but were signed due largely to the former proving ineffective.
No one wants them to succeed more than me, but none of them are fit to lace the boots of Paul Mullin

Disclaimer: Did not go on Saturday.

Possession stats can be a bit misleading I (rightly or wrongly) got the impression the game had been lost by half-time.

For all our possession in games we've struggled to create good quality chances all season. without the pace of a Jackson or Windass usually we just give the opposition time to get back their shape.

Re: The Scunthrope game.

Too right Morse.
Stats for stats sake.
Watch the game for 90 minutes I say then work it out.

Chelski had 44% possession yesterday and 12 efforts on goal.
If an armchair fan didn't know the score he'd think they'd nicked a point.
Lord Stiff - they were awful ! I take nothing back.
Ask the other die hards sat in the stand what they thought.
Play like that for the rest of the season and we're down.
I expect a reaction starting Friday.
The run of four fixtures at home after that.

Minimum 8 points please.
