Re: Coronovirus

When all this is thankfully over and the surviving clubs restructure their finances regionalised leagues might well resurface to minimise costs. Players wages will also reduce significantly especially at top level.

Both good ideas...but.
Some of us would see less of Stanley with a regionalised structure, but I doubt it will occur.
Pay in the Prawn League will depend entirely on the willingness of TV and betting companies to keep on inflating things. Money from TV and the gambling industry is a ‘loss leader’ for both, so they can then earn a fortune, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

After frontline NHS workers, cleaners on crap wages, supermarkets staff etc,etc battle on through this with no other choice I hope they at the ludricous top end of football,s outrageous wages get a reality check from supporters who will probably have less money to spend on luxuries as subscription TV or even not rush back watching them live things change.

the way football is financed then lower down the leagues you go then more these clubs actually need fans to turn up at the gate. the thing that may happen is that the new contracts offered by teams in div.1 and 2 will be lower but those at the top will still have the i,m all right jack approach to football finance.

Even Premiership clubs could go to the wall with this the way they have all scrambled for the prize of being in their among the "elite," all their income going on players wages can't be sustainable, when crowds are allowed back people will have lost jobs income or worst still a family member, they might just not rush back like football thinks they will.

Or you’ll have the opposite and people will flock to pump money back into clubs.
Hope you’ve all bought the 50/50 tickets for this saturdays game from the supporters trust?!?!

Re: Coronovirus

Nicola Palios of Tranmere, Andy Holt, among others saying this morning that the EFL needs to get it's act together and come up with a viable plan moving forward, they have mucked about now for nearly 4 weeks April,s pay cheques coming up, Andy Holt has said he has heard a few clubs already missed wages, Palios warns of a catastrophe ahead if something isn't collectively decided soon, he say,s pay cuts have to be one way forward up to 50% because some clubs are that close to financial ruin. Plus he adds that owners who usually bail out clubs will be reluctant to do so at present as their own business,s are under immense pressure and they might in some cases just throw in the towel.

Personally, I think that's probably the greatest threat - a lot of clubs from League 1 downwards are reliant on owners who have done well for themselves out of quite small businesses and taken on their local clubs for a variety of philanthropic reasons, with no intention of making any money out of it, indeed expecting to have pour money into the bottomless pit. In times like this, for folks in this position, it's not a choice between continuing support for the club and the business - if the business goes, the club goes anyway.

Fingers crossed ……..
