2021/22 Prediction League Game 36; v Wycombe Wanderers (home)

Accrington Stanley

v

Wycombe Wanderers

2021/22 Prediction League Game 36; v High Wycombe's Buckinghamshire Buckeroos

Felicitations to New Zealand's "Football Fearn" Meikayla (which used to be spelled "Michaela") Moore on her performance in the game the Fearns played in the SheBelieves Cup against the Good Ol' US of A on 20th February........ Miss Moore - an experienced international - plays these days for De Liverpool Judies .... in the USA game she managed to score a hat-trick - and a "proper" one, to boot - with her right foot on 5 mins, her head on 6 mins, and her left foot on 36 mins ........... a fantastic impact on the game!

And then on 40 mins she was pulled off and subbed .......... largely because all three goals went past her own GK, putting the USA 3-0 ahead for very little effort .............. Meikayla's Manager Jitka Klimková (a former Czech player with Sokol Čejč, Slávia Holíč and Compex Otrokovice), appointed Fearns Manager in September 2021, said;

"Each player who has played, and it doesn't matter what level, has great games and tough games, and Mouse had a tough day at the office. Obviously, she's sad and disappointed, but she's an unbelievable person and player who belongs on this team. We are all behind her in this tough moment for her."

"Mouse"?

And weren't the Roman Senators "all behind" Julius Caesar (stabbing him) in the "Ides of March" Cabinet Reshuffle in the Senate, don't I recall?

And the Multicoloured Manager Swap Shop continues unabated; Derek Adams, who took Morecambe up and then left for Bratfud, is back at Morecambe, replacing Stephen Robinson (now with St Helen Mirren); Adams hadn't had a great time at Bratfud (9 wins from 37), and left last week (15th) ...... the vacant Bratfud job went to ex Man U and Wales striker Mark Hughes; Kenny Jackett parted company with Leyton Orient, and Keith Millen left Carlisle (now in the bottom two of League Two - much to Oldham's surprise) on Wednesday gone; Grant McCann took Darren Ferguson's old job at the Posh (it's his third time in the London Road Hot Seat, if you count a caretaker stint separately) ....... Hughes, McCann and Adams were all appointed today (Thursday 24th) ...... it's getting a bit like Happy Families ...... "Have you got Mr and Mrs Bates, and their son Master Bxxxx?"

OK, so this week's Starter for Ten; we've all seen multiple reasons for games to be stopped, some funny, some not, some long, some short ........... but what caused play to be halted when Nueva Concepcion (which translates, I believe, as "Newly Pregnant") met Municipal in a match in the Guatemalan League?

Around the League, Vegan Greenpeace are now ten points clear with a game in hand ........ Carlisle and Scunthorpe are at the Messy End of the Table; in League Two, Crewe are The Weakest Link (no points from their last five games), Morecambe, the Wombles and Slumberland each have 2/15 .... En haut, Rotherham have 13 points from 15, Bolton and Plywood have 12, and the Dons and Ipswich have 11; in the Bananarama, Stockpot have 61 points from 29 games, six more than TwistySpires United, but Boreham Wood are coming up on the far rails, 53 points from 26, and primed to nick it on the line (maybe) ......... Gateshead head up the Bananarama North (63 from 28), Brackley have 57 from 26 but a worse GD, and Kidderminster Harriers are third (56 from 26 but with the best GD of the three)..........

And the Government is being urged to seize (should that be "freeze"?) Roman Abramovich's assets ............ it isn't clear whether Chelski is or is not considered an asset at this time ...............

Wycombe, as you might know, had a lengthy non-league existence (including 64 years in the Isthmian League), resisting invitations to join the Upper Echelons; the name of the League is thought to originate from the fact that the geographical location of most of the clubs participating describe an isthmus of land around London and South-East England. It was most probably named in the spirit of the Greeks - other contemporary leagues were called Athenian (1912), Hellenic and Spartan (1907). Since at least the 19th century, it has been common across many sporting disciplines to associate teams, clubs, leagues etc. with legendary Greek athleticism.

Eventually, in 1987, they took their place in the newly named GM Vauxhall Conference, and under manager Jim Kelman they finished in fourth place in 1989. The following season would be the club's last at their Loakes Park home (after 95 years). 1989/90, though, was a disappointing season on the field, and Kelman was "invited" to resign as Manager following an ignominious defeat in the FA Trophy - but (Second Starter for Ten) - who inflicted said "ignominious defeat"?

Promoted into the FL in 1993, winning the Conference by 15 points from Bromsgrove Rovers (bet you didn't know that!), they went straight up into League Two, beating Carlisle 4-1 in the playoff semis, and PNE 4-2 in the Final ........ they were to win the League One playoffs in 2019/20 and hit the dizzy heights of Le Championnat, seeing off Fleetwood 6-3 in the semis and Oxford 2-1 in the Final ........ they were ultimately unlucky (as in "We Wuzz Robbed") to come straight down again last season

Wycombe's LB and skipper Joe Jacobson was, of course, a Stanley player prior to his spells with Shrewsbury and at Adams Park ........ Many Stanley fans say we haven't had a decent LB since he left .......... but would anyone care to hazard a guess how many games Joe actually played for the Stanley to earn that soubriquet, and how many goals he scored at The Wham (before it was the Wham)?

They signed Lewis Wing from Middlesbrough in January, and shed James Clark (contract expiry - joined Beaconsfield Town) and GK Curtis Anderson, who joined Lancaster City; they also lost their talisman MF Matt Bloomfield to retirement after 19 years, 488 League games and 40 goals ... I suspect they'll miss him hugely .......... Since the turn of the year they've only won three in the League out of eleven (Charlton, Bolton and Oxford); they have, though, also drawn with Sunderland, Shrewsbury, Lincoln and Cheltenham (5-5) ...... won 3, drawn 4, lost 4; they'd beaten us, you'll recall, in the season opener (2-1), our goal by Butcher ...... away record is W6 D6 L4 GF23 GA17; overall, P33 W15 D10 L8 GF53 GA43 Pts55 for 7th place. one point behind Sunderland and Plymouth They've been in the automatic spots for 7 games, most recently mid January after the win over Oxford ....

Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 26th February .............. In our last eleven games, starting with the MK Dons, the stats show that we've had 160 shots (14+ per game), that 51 of those were "on target" (4.6 per game), and that we scored 11 goals (one per game) .......... stats prove nothing, which is true, except whether or not you can consistently hit the floor with your hat .... 160 shots for 11 goals - including the ones that Sean McCrosser laid on a plate against Crewe - suggests that maybe we can't ...... yet. But someone's due a larruping ....

And Nueva Concepcion's game against Municipal was stopped when a six-foot silver-coloured snake of undeclared parentage slithered on to the pitch with the home side 1-0 up; play resumed after eight minutes (most of which was spent trying to find out where the players had shot off to and hidden), and Nueva won the match - their first win of the season ...........

And Jim Kelman's departure from WhyCombe was cause by the FA Trophy defeat by the Metropolitan Police ......... supplemental question; how many of the Met Police team are Met Police Officers? To my understanding, it's "none" ....

And - including the earlier loan spell (2006/07) - Joe Jacobson played 32 games for the Reds ..... seems like more ....... and scored three times

Good luck to everyone! ............ Keep the Faith! ,,,,,,,,,, And thanks for playing!

COYR!
