Re: The Arndale Clock

I kept wondering why there was so much interest in the fate of a shopping centre clock- now I've seen Atarahs video I can see why! What a brilliant design and watching the video his other projects are just as fascinating. I can see why you all miss it.

Re: The Arndale Clock

They could also give the clock a new home in;
The proposed new Bus Station
The new Railway Station
The Coppice and
The Viaduct

I can just visualise it on top of the Coppice. Every hour people going up to see what time it is.It's a classic is that. The Viaduct one, I'm not even going to think about that one.

I sure Gayle would be in favour of the 'top of the Coppice' suggestion

Re: The Arndale Clock

It was a mechanical novelty at the time.
Novelty wears off, and it isn't 'beautiful', so why bother preserving it (other than as a museum exhibit)

It's a lot more interesting / visually appealing than any of the things that subsequently replaced it. I wouldn't call it beautiful, but it's definitely something that people stop and look at - and let's face it, our town centre needs all the help it can get.

I agree and all the young children that didnt see it the first time will be able to see it in action.
It may be old fashioned and not as modern but still interesting imho.
