Re: Today in pictures

Huncoat Pit was today's exploration, the scramble bikes are still ripping it up, on the plus side the ground is dry and not as muddy as was my last visit. I was expecting more blue this time, I was disappointed.

1. The top end of the site are littered with these huge rocks, no idea as to there origin.
2. Despite the overnight rain and sleet the water flow is on the gentle side.
3. Just time to dip it in the water.
4. Small patches of Wood Anemones are dotted around the waters edge.
5.You wouldn't guess the motorway is just over the hill to the right and a field away.
6. Seed heads of the Coltsfoot plant.
7. Looking down the site from the top end.
8.The Persimmon Meteor that fell to Earth in 1946 collapsing tunnel 7 belonging to the National Coal Board, NO it isn't, its just a big rock.
9. Back to the blue bits and wet bits.
10. And with that last shot it was time to leave, a rather sunny but chilly outing.

If you take your detectoring stick up around where you were standing for piccy 5, you'll probably find quite a few spent rounds.

I was thinking that myself but,I got informed that folk have been collecting round there for years. There is also a (clay/stone) embankment that the lead shot would have embedded themselves into but I couldn't find any

Do you realise how many rounds go down a range on a days shooting? I'm pretty sure you'll find something.

Not being one who is into firearms, I wouldn't have the foggiest although, I'm guessing it's more than 1 or 2?
I'll have to give it a go,I've got permission to use my "detectoring stick" on a local farm next week so I may as well pop on and see what's lying beneath the surface

When I have been fossicking around the site I found spent rounds that are on the surface, they don't exactly look like bullets at first as they are a bit bent out of shape either by the target or hitting the front or back soil mounds, but once you get your eye in you will find more than a few.

I agree Turtle - we don't have them in Italy. I love the more delicate hare-bells too. I think last year was the bumper bluebell year so maybe this year they are resting a little more Dave.

I really like the photo of the anemones and number 2 has great colour and reflection and the water is incredibly clear!
