It's been a interesting 12 months, this time last year I was looking for a job and paid good money to go to Morocco to fly a Boeing 737-800 for 500 flight hours. As things turned out I was offered a job in July with a rival airline based in Casablanca, flying both the 737-800 and the older 737-400. So now I get home to Accrington and my Girl once a month for a week or so.
Having a Bloody cold when away from home

First a bit of background. I am a Airline Pilot and have been flying for nearly 5 years, I was type rated on the Boeing 737 two years ago and currently have just over 100 hours on type, struggleing to find a job.
So I came to Casablanca, Morocco with 10 other like minded souls, to build some hours on type, I have paid for 500 hours of actual airline operational flying.
We arrived at the begining of January and started our flying last week, having gone through various groundschool and simulator tests. One of the guys out here had a cold a week or two ago and nobody thought anything about it, however on monday I got a sore throat, I brought some medication over with me, sore throat pastles, painkillers etc and proceeded to take them.
Yesterday, however I woke up with a runny nose, damm, I felt bloody awful all day, I did manage to go to the supermarket and get some hankies, I need some more now and spent most of the day on the sofa feeling lousy and wishing I was home. The other two guys I am sharing a apartment with were very understanding as they know they will be next. I woke up this morning early and feel no better. I am meant to be flying tomorrow to Rome, in the afternoon and hope I feel better by then and my nose is a bit unblocked, if your eustachian tube is blocked (thats the tube that connects your inner eat to the back of your nose) flying a pressurised aircraft can be very painful as the air in your tubes cannot balance out. Couple all of that with the small fact that there is ****** all on the television to watch, okay we have BBC news and BBC Prime, but thats it. So I miss my girl and feel cold and lousy to boot.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
It is bad enough feeling rough when you are home - at least there, you have someone to minister hot lemon and stuff.....but away from home.....no fun, no fun at all. |

This may help you Boeing Guy.
Try inhaling steam...if you have a pyrex jug put a couple of inches of boiling water in the bottom and place your nose and mouth over the opening(nose in the pouring place) and inhale the steam......do this every couple of hours. It will help flush out the mucus and kill off the virus....and get your pals to do the same now before they start with a full blown cold. |
