Never again
I had saved up a bit of money so yesterday i decided i would take Reece to Blackpool for a treat and stay overnight.
Yesterday morning i rang around a few B&B's to see if they had any rooms going, several of them said that they where fully booked but the last one i rang said yes, they had a room for me and reece and it would be £30 for the night, no breakfast, just a bunkbed for us to sleep in, so off to blackpool we went.
We arrived at this place about 2pm, i paid the £30 and £20 deposit for the key, we where told which room was ours so we took the suitcase upstairs and went into the room, in this room was a set of bunkbeds and a kettle, no tv, which i thought was a bit odd...we left our suitcase there and headed for the pleasure beach.
We spent the rest of the day on the pleasure beach and started heading back to our 'room' about 9pm, we got back at about 10pm after we had had a look around a few shops on our way back up.
I noticed when we got back that they had a communal lounge so i sat watching tv with Reece for a while, about 11pm we headed off to bed, thats when the fun started
We both got changed and Reece climbed onto the top bunk, i got in the bottom and noticed that the bars underneath the top bunk where all bent and looked like they where about to break, Reece then started complaining that the matress was sticking into his back, i noticed the same about mine and TRIED to resolve the matter by moving the matress to the floor, it was no good, it made it worse.
By this time all the dust in the bedroom had got on my chest and i started wheezing, i was getting more mad.
We both got dressed and headed downstairs with our suitcase, to try and ask for another room, we tried to arouse the owner but by this time it was nearly midnight.
a while later the bell at the front door rang and she came out and answered it.
I then asked her if i could have a word with her and i told her about the matresses and she wasnt impressed, she started shouting at me, she said no one had ever complained before about the bunkbeds or the state of the room, at this i was getting rather angry myself and i asked if i could have my money back, she blankly refused and said all she was going to give me was the money back for the deposit i had paid for the key £20.
I was having none of it, so i told her i was going to go to the papers about her 'accomodation'...now i may have been a bit fickle, but i could not let my son (and myself for that matter) sleep in beds like that, why should we have to put up with second best?
She eventually gave me my money back and told us to **** off, so we did, gladly.
It was now knocking on 1 am, with Reece in one hand and a suitcase in the other i didnt know what to do, i started to cry, Reece started to cry, yes i know i shouldnt have had Reece walking around Blackpool at the time, but what choice did i have? we headed for the prom....i noticed a few cabs going past so i took the number from a couple of them, i rang one and they wanted £65 to take us to Blackburn, i then rang another and she said £55 so i asked her if she could send us a cab.
The driver picked us up and was really nice to us, i told him what had gone on and he said that that place was known for being grotty and said that i should ring Blackpool borough Council and complain about it, afterall, it is one of the places that is letting his home town down and putting people off coming back to Blackpool.
We got home and fell into bed around 2am, i've never been so glad of my own bed in my life.
call me an irresponsible mum if you like, but why should we stand for second best in life?

Flashy, sorry to hear that what should have been a 'fun' time for you both turned out to be a nightmare.
I hope you pursue the complaint and that this establishment has its licence revoked. |

No one could call you an irresponsible mother. The set of beds could have bust at any time during the night. You did right to put your son's safety first.
Hope the place gets hounded by the council and sorted out. |

I dont think your an irresponsible Mum at all Flashy, infact I think you were very brave to do what you did. How awful that it happened in the first place £30 for the night aint that cheap for Blackpool. I'm sure Reece will eventually think it was a bit of an adventure that time in the morning and all. Is it possible to name and shame on here then we knoe where not to stay?
