This week I have been working as a student ambassador on the day shift. I have been on the creative writing course which has had its ups and downs.
My group has a mixture of shy, loud, cheeky, extremely bright (year 10's already doing AS levels) and what I guess can only be referred to as 'normal' level children, so preparing for their GCSE's as they all should be at that age.
Yesterday we won the 'tower challenge' (building towers out of newspaper and sellotape) for the best design! Our tower had a star shaped base because we are all special unique stars! Our prize was a box of celebrations to share!
Today we put together a poem about our time on the course for our 5 minute presentation tomorrow. My group has 2 and a half minutes and the other group has the rest of the time. This is what my group came up with between the 12 of them:
On our course on creative writing,
Boy, I wish it was more exciting.
We all agreed it was better than a school day,
We enjoyed learning the Lancaster way.
Kath Nichols was our tutor whilst here,
Telling us how writing connects with our career,
The library books were covered in dust,
But studying them is a must.
Swimming at uni was really really cool,
We had a laugh in the non-chlorine pool.
Our tower was the best by far,
We made the base in the shape of a star.
It was totally stylish so we won the prize,
If you say yours is better then you're telling lies.
We piled on the coach to have a great time at bowling,
We all hope that good times just keep on rolling.
The girls on our floor are familiar faces,
We had so much fun when we had chair races.
At the disco for hours on end,
All the dancing drove me around the bend.
We completed challenges and grew as a team,
We're all going to leave here with more self esteem.
Meeting new people and making new friends,
We're all sad our time here has come to an end.
We're home group 11, a right creative lot
We've given this poem everything we've got
We couldn't think of anything else to rhyme,
It's alright though cuz we're ran out of time
(this bit was added on the last day and they said all this bit together in the presentation)
They made up all the lines themselves and I've left them as they are written. They say a couplet each too so they're all saying something. I'm hoping it'll be really good tomorrow.
Whilst I was packing up one of the girls said 'we're so glad we had you because you're really nice and we were scared you would be mean.' and one then said 'yeah, we love you!' so I was really proud today of them and myself because we've all worked so hard this week and the lads didn't really want to do the course but they still worked extremely hard. I'm having a good time but I come home tomorrow
going to miss all the kids I've met because some of them are right characters!
It has been graduation week too so I've seen my friends in 3rd year graduating! It's just been great.

Well I enjoyed it, it is certainly something I would think about in the future as it was something I wanted to do before I considered law instead of my original choice of music.
Law is still obviously my first choice for a career, but working with children in some way or another may be something to consider in the future in some way or another. I always liked the idea of being a mentor some day, but we'll see! |
