Hibernation

Posted 16-11-2008 at 16:26 by MargaretR
Hibernation - I need to - don't choose to - here's why.
Fatigue - everybody gets it when you over do things beyond your body's capacity. 'Chronic' is a word added to denote that it has lasted a long time and you get no let up from it, so it is always present.

I 'crashed' into this state in July, but I can now see that there had been a slow deterioration over many years to reach that low point.

I was not willing to accept this dramatic reduction in energy as 'old age'.

It is a state where a body's capacity to metabolise energy slows down to tickover.
It has many causes - poor nutrition, stress, toxin exposure are the main ones. These are things that everybody is exposed to - just part of living.
It is the volume of exposure and the cumulative effect that eventually causes a
body to shut down into tickover mode.

I was not just going to take it lying down. That is ironic because 'lying down' is
an essential part of feeling better and recovering.

I have always had an independant nature and began the search for my cure.
(If you websearch you will see that the NHS consider it incurable.)
As the condition has three main causes my recovery has three lines of approach.

1. poor nutrition I have always been conciencous about eating wholesome food and avoiding junk, but now realise that my digestive system was damaged by prescription drugs in 1980. I don't get all my body needs from my food no matter how much good food I eat. This led me to research nutrition and learnt just how complex chemical reactions in the body cells are. I need to correct those deficiencies in essential nutrients, which can take many months of experimentation with food supplements to restore.

2. stress So we all get it, some more than others, and many get more than I've had in
my lifetime. I do indulge myself in saying that I have had more than most. Three long term men in my life and all three relationships ended. Moving house ten times. Working full time for 35 years continously. I now avoid stress by limiting contact with the world ie. hibernation. It is drastic I know - I sometimes miss 'people contact'
but Accy Web helps, and internet shopping is wonderful. Lying down for several hours
during the day helps, and does restrict any social life somewhat.

3.toxin exposure You have all seen my diatribes about toxic chemicals so already know about what I do to limit my exposure. We live in an industrial area. I was exposed to pollution from coal burning in my childhood. That has now been replaced by
exhaust fumes and petrochemicals in products. At least in hibernation at home I can avoid toxic chemicals.

So you think I am 'going over the top' in restricting myself to hibernation?
I realise that some may consider what I am doing as 'extreme'.

I am doing what I consider neccessary to cure an 'extreme' problem, and I need to do it fast.I am almost 66 and want the amount of time I need to live like this reduced to a minimum.
If that means opting out for a year in order to make the years after that more 'livable' so be it.
