The Day of I....

Posted 10-01-2008 at 00:25 by harwood red

Ok Interview day...and was suprised at how nervous I was.

It was set for 1.30pm test with the interview at 2pm... but first I had to get through the morning!!

Well that proved to be alot easier than I thought as I was scheduled to be on a course... boring you might think??

Not a minute of it. It was a lone workers course, which is a refresher course for me as it must be over 5 years since I attended my last one. Chris who was taking the course was probably the most knowledgable person in this kind of field I had ever met!!

He worked for the prison service - checking that all was as it should be and that staff were trained to deal with all eventualities including riots.. the police service, similar kind of thing and even training NHS staff on how to deal with conflict in hospital and when visiting he is a trained hostage negotiator and has full firearms licence!!!!!!!

As you can imagine it was how to deal with conflict and aggression in the workplace, which unfortunately can be an everyday occurance and due to many of us visiting people in their homes it helped to deal with self safety also...oh yeah never mind the self defence we practiced

Ok I know many of you really just want to know how the interview went, so here goes...

I went up to personnel as instructed at 1.25pm to take the test required for the post and it all felt surreal as the people all around me are already colleagues and friends and yet they had to treat me as if I was an external applicant..equal ops and all that..

the test itself was quite straightforward (hmm might retract that if I find out I failed it) and involved budgeting skills/debt issues and preparing reports... and I am glad to say I even spotted the deliberate mistake that I am sure was put in to catch some people out!!

When completed I was escorted back downstairs for the interview (again very strange as the Deb from personnel is a friend - so I made inane joke about how lucky she was to work in such a lovely building...ok ok it made us giggle anyway). I was then taken by my two current bosses into the interview room and made to feel suprisingly comfortable, offered a drink etc... but the butterfly's were definately doing somersaults!!

I won't bore you with the content (if you're not bored yet anyway) but I feel it went quite well although as you can imagine after the fact there were a few self kicks at things I wished I had mentioned..or maybe somethings I wished I hadn't... always the way eh?!?

There were a couple of scenario's I had to respond to aswell as the usual sorts of questions and I think I answered them ok but was reminded there are not necessarily any right or wrong answers when dealing with scenario's!

But 45 mins later the interview was over .. phew! Funny thing was I spent the next 3 hours watching people come and go for their interviews

The earliest I will find out is either last thing tomorrow (thurs) as they are still interviewing all afternoon but if not then it will be next weds!!!!! This is due to one of them being off on Friday and the other off on Monday and both away for work Tuesday.. and if I'm not successful for the post they would have to contact that person first before letting anyone else know!!

Fingers crossed

I have everything crossed for you'll have to let us know how you fared. I will be on tenterhooks.

equal ops my backside. I have not yet worked for a company that did not have a pretty good idea who they were going to give the job too when internal applicants were involved before the interviews.

Before my last internal interview I was given the nod that I was "high up the list" by the gaffer.
