Funny Sunday!

Posted 28-03-2006 at 01:14 by junetta

I had a day off from bowling as my partner, Doreen, has a really bad back. Her daughter did offer to be substitute but as I wasn't feeling that great we decided to postpone it for a couple of weeks.

As 'im indoors had to go off to play his game, I settled down for a quiet afternoon on the computer. It wasn't Mother's Day here, that's some time in June, I think, but, as I received a card from my daughter I felt I could pretend and do exactly as I liked.

All went well until around four o'clock. I'd pottered a bit, done computer, read a little and scoffed half a bar of Dairy Milk, when the phone rang!!

My peace was shattered. Melvyn, our ancient Renault Clio decided to burst a water pipe on the slip way of the main Tenerife motorway, TF1, not a good road at the best of times. Brian had very little credit on his mobile and the battery was well low so I had to get involved.

I really don't understand him and his mobile. They don't seem to like each other much. On the rare occasions that he does decide to take it out, it never has all it's faculties. Someone once told him that he had been ringing him all day.............his reply, "I was out".

Anyway, back to my ruined afternoon. I managed to find out where he was in a vague sort of way and rang for the tow truck service, free with our insurance policy. Luckily, the chap, based in Madrid, did speak English and I passed on as much information as possible........including Brian's mobile number. It all got quite comical after that, battery died, credit went, but he did manage to find the car mobile charger and was rescued within the hour!

Guess what, he didn't even come up to the apartment but shouted up "I'm going for a beer"!!! So much for pretend Mother's Day!

A footnote
I wonder how many Renault Clio's have been towed home down the TF1 sporting an Accrington Stanley sticker in the back window?!!
