Holidays......

I have just booked a holiday for me and Sparky. We are going to Lefkas in Greece. I love the Greek Islands and can't wait. The people are friendly, the food is generally good and the wine highly palatable. It's always sunny and you can do as much or as little as you like.
I have a feeling that I won't be doing much. I need to sit in the sun and re-charge my batteries. Sparks doesn't sound too enamoured about a beach holiday, but the truth is he has never had one. Beach hols have never appealed to him, but then again walking holidays never appealed to me, but I went on one about 3 years ago and loved it (even though I was knackered when I got home and needed a beach hol to get over it)
What I love about the Greek Islands is that they are all different but have similarities. Technically they are all Greek, but each island has its own identity. The Kefalonians will argue that certain customs are purely Kefalonian, invented and kept alive by them The Corfiotes will argue that certain things are only seen genuinely in Corfu, the Cretans do the same and so do all of the other islands. It's funny to be an observer sometimes but the casual observer is always welcome no matter which island you happen to be on. Nobody rushes anything here, things do get done but in a very laid back manner. More than 3 cars on the road on some of these islands and the road is gridlocked. It's not unusual to see donkeys bearing baskets of fruit and flowers being led down the road by elderly islanders who sell their produce very cheaply. Signs outside peoples houses invite you in to buy their honey, olives or whatever else they happen to grow. Plentiful seafood restaurants will serve up the fresh catch of the day and the little tavernas with their music and dancing are always welcoming.
You see, there are lots of nice things about a small island holiday in the sun and if you are reading this Sparks.......... Once you've got over the sight of me in a bikini and the nausea has settled, I'm sure that you will enjoy the laid back, carefree lifestyle. Just don't tell me that my legs need ironing.

Re: Holidays......
Sounds idyllic........I never fancied the Greek Islands......then my neice came over from Oz and wanted to meet up with her friends who were staying in the caves(very expensive caves) in Firostefani on Santorini........I baulked a bit, but absolutely loved it.
And had a few bad heads as a result of my liking for Vinsanto.......well, the glasses they served it in were more like buckets......and you can't just have one or they are offended. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.....!Posted 18-06-2005 at 17:45 by Margaret Pilkington -
