A welcome break..

Posted 03-10-2006 at 20:11 by lettie
A week last Sunday me and Sparks went to Lanzarote for a welcome break. We'd booked it online a couple of weeks earlier and I was really looking forward to the break. I usually object to having to get up at 4am but I do tend to make an exception for holidays.

We managed to arrange flights with Thomas Cook and we managed to get really good flight times. That was really the best thing about the flights, the seat pitch on TC airlines is next to nowt. A small child may find them comfy but unfortunately a couple of tallish adults like us found that our knees were crushed up against the seat in front of us. The bad thing about this airline, and no doubt many others is that they charge for everything individually. It was £12pp for...

It's been an eventful week at work, believe me......the abuse that NHS staff get is dreadful and I'm totally sick of it. Abuse aside, I have been working with a good crowd and we have stuck together like glue this week through various incidents.

Last night we had a Jacob's join. One of my colleagues is leaving to work in Dubai. A very popular member of the team and one of my ex students we decided to have a little feast so we all brought various nibbles, cakes, biscuits, dips etc.

I will really miss her and remember the day that we first met. I was working as a community midwife in Hyndburn and was informed that due to having the teaching and assessing certificate I was to be allocated a new student. I had been allocated...

The entertainer..

Had a bit of a mad week so far. I worked on Monday and Tuesday nights, these night shifts don't half come round quickly, I'd only just got used to being back on days.

On Thursday me and Sparks were going to see Robbie Williams at Milton Keynes along with Angie and Dale. We have had the tickets for ages and really wanted to see the new Wembley but due to it not being ready, the show was shifted to MK.

Angie and Dale were visiting Dale's brother in London earlier this week and were driving to MK from there. Sparks was also sent down south again for work and his mates were dropping him off in MK on their way back home. I ended up having to go on the train.

Well, it was persisting down when I set off,...

You dirty old man...

Had a good day out on Saturday (when we finally got there). We went to Manchester for a couple of drinks, a meal and a play at the Lowry. The journey to Manchester on the bus was marred by a broken windscreen wiper. The bus had to pull over onto a slip road at Bury and we then had a bit of a wait for someone from the depot to come out and fix it.

When we finally got there we had a couple of drinks and then found a nice little Italian restaurant and had a meal. We caught the Metrolink to the Lowry to watch our show.....Steptoe and Son. It was brilliant... the actors had worked really hard at getting the voices and the mannerisms right. I'd had a few glasses of wine but I do remember that I left the Lowry laughing.

The smoke.

Had a brilliant weekend in London and celebrated in style. We went down on the train on friday and stayed at the Regents Palace hotel. The name was quite misleading as it most certainly was not a 'palace'. It is a large hotel, very central with Picadilly Circus tube station just outside. Some of the rooms have bathroom facilities and some have no facilities with bathrooms located on each floor. Our room had facilities which reminded me of being in a caravan. It was a tiny bathroom unit and you could literally have a wee, shower and clean your teeth at the same time. The room had a musty smell to it but it was clean and to be honest we hardly spent any time in our room. We dumped our bags and went to Lords to collect our tickets for the next...
