Well actually, it could get a little worse..

We finally arrived in Sydney. The airport in Sydney is marvellous to transfer through. There's no need to collect baggage and the security area is a formality. There we were, going through security. No need to take shoes off, a quick scan of the hand luggage, no queues, we were literally straight through.

We went straight to the transfer desk to collect our onward boarding cards. I gave our tickets to the lady at the transfer desk. She pecked away at the computer for a couple of minutes and...........

COULDN'T FIND ANY RECORD OF US!!!!!!!

By this time, Sparks was too ill to speak and I was a midges dick away from tears. I looked down...

So there we were, sat at Heathrow with hours to kill. I managed to ring my friends in New Zealand and let them know that we would be a full day late. There was supposed to be a big barbie at my friends' house in Thames on the Sunday afternoon. Friends were travelling from Tauranga to be there but we wouldn't be. The barbie was cancelled, we wouldn't get to Thames until the Monday and everyone was back at work by then..

I tried to call our car hire place and couldn't get through. We needed to let them know that we would be 24 hours late, otherwise we would lose our car. In the end, we had to call a friend and give him all of our booking details so that he could e mail them for us..... We owe him a pint or two.

I have decided that I am going to blog our holiday this time and not put it into a thread. I will still add photos to the blog, when my camera gets back from Poland.. The first bit of the holiday needs no pics, it was the most horrendous journey to NZ that we have ever had.........

We arrived at Manchester Airport mega early for our flight to Heathrow. We were so excited about our forthcoming trip and Sparks' mum had given us a lift to the airport. We didn't want her to be stuck in the Manchester traffic during rush hour, so agreed to go early. Our flight wasn't until 18.50 but we arrived at 15.30, we reckoned that we could kill some time at the airport.

We found the check in desks for our airline and...

We've had a hell of a good time lately, but like all good times, it had to end. Isn't it funny that the quickest weeks of the year are your holidays?
I have a tale or two to tell about this holiday, most of the tales are good but....... there is one unbelieveably bad one. The tales will have to wait though because we are back to reality now.
We got home on Sunday afternoon and actually managed to stay awake until about 8pm but, tiredness got the better of us and we went to bed. I didn't fall asleep, I lapsed into unconsciousness and woke up at 3.30 am. I was completely wide awake, Sparks had been wide awake since 2.30 so we got up. I was literally banging down the doors of Tesco at 8am, did all the shopping, went to the bank etc....

I have to say that I have never been so glad to finish work as I was yesterday morning. Not because it was busy but because I now have 3 weeks off. It's a killer is saving your hols until the winter and I am really ready for a break.

I did have a day of lovely surprises though. My student, who I have mentored for the last 3 years, has almost qualified and she sent me a lovely Thankyou card and a nice bottle of wine. I did the handover at work and then was presented with a large birthday card and a Next gift card from my colleagues......

I was really surprised.....my reaction was "You sneaky buggers!!!!!" How they have managed to do this behind my back is a miracle. The card must have been all over the Unit...
