Well, as the more attentive of you know I am somewhat incapacitated at the moment, I have an "acute injury to the ulnar collateral ligaments" , basically the ligaments that attach my left thumb to my left hand aren't doing that any more, also I have dislocated the same thumb as well, never one to do things by halves !
This sad state of affairs came about a week last saturday on a night out with G78 and Misskitty amongst others, I had foolishly put some new high heels on and after a mere 4 pints my already dodgy ankle gave way on leaving the Bees Knees and I put my hand out to stop myself hitting the deck.
On getting back upright I couldn't help but notice that my thumb was looking somewhat wrong, ie pointing in a previously unseen direction, I shoved it back to where I thought it looked better but the pain was telling me it wasn't quite right ! With help from Andrew and G78 I stuck the very bent thumb in a pint glass full of ice and downed another medicinal pint ! I wanted to carry on but when we got to the next pub it became horribly apparent that I would have to go home for some pain killers.
The Sunday morning dawned, I had little sleep despite the swathe of painkillers and the thumb was now black and blue and even more swollen than before. I foolishly ignored it as best I could despite my family telling me to go to hospital, I got thru the day in a daze, it was Mother's day and I didn't want to spend it sat in casualty.
I managed to get in to work on Monday and showed the now grotesque mess of a hand to the girls at work, I waited for someone to cover the counter and then went to A&E by popular demand,( one of the staff was nearly sick when she looked at the hand and it was now making me feel sick if I moved it !)
So, I saw a lovely doc at Accy Vic, he sent me for xrays, then told me the severity of the injury, I really thought it was just bruised or sprained ! When he said plaster cast I thought he was joking, I said "I've got to 40 without a cast , I'm not starting now !" to no avail.
It's classed as a severe injury, the prognosis looks pretty cack to me, the cast is just the start of it, I have to go to fracture clinic at Blackburn this thursday, I am expecting another cast for another fortnight and then possibly surgery. I am bored and in a lot of pain and the cast I have now is really loose and annoying , it fit fine when the hand was swollen up ! If anyone wants to look this up it's called a "skiers thumb" injury, if you find any positives please let me know
.
I will be back to post more, it's about all I can do at the moment !

Ouch!!!!!! I do feel sorry for you Linds, hope the thumb improves quickly. I fractured my wrist a few years ago (fell off my shoes after a jar or 2). Went to Accy Vic the next day because my arm was black from hand to elbow and I have to say it worried me a tad...... Ended up in plaster, fracture clinic etc. Ok now though but I still can't rotate my wrist comfortably during cold weather.
