Today the new school term started......it has been anticipated for many weeks at my daughters house.
The uniform had been bought, name labels attached to everything....and everything kept in a neat little(or not so little) pile....waiting for this day.
Her little lad, formerly known as 'Tiddler'
was due to start at 'big' school.
He couldn't wait. This event has loomed large on his horizon for what seems like an age.
He has been wanting to go to school for the last two years....and the last few weeks at pre-school, he felt, were very trying.
This was because he saw himself as a 'big boy'.......and no longer wanted to be associated with the 'babies'.
He wanted to be doing different things to what the 'babies' were doing....he wanted to learn to read and write....do sums and all the things that he felt were right for a 'big boy'.
Pre school was all very fine when the bigger boys were there...like the breakfast club, holiday club and such like, because he felt like he had more in common with the bigger boys......even though they left him for dead in the running races they had in the playground. He so wanted to be like them.
Today was the day that he started at school.
All dressed up in his brand new school uniform......he looked like he had grown, he looked proud....... he looked smart....and he would have gone to school at 7.30 if we had let him.
It doesn't seem two minutes since he was a baby.......and here he is suited and booted at the school gates. Where has the time gone?
I'm blowed if I know!

Mick, I think they must have put him in a cardboard box for the day....he looked just the same coming out as he did going in.......no dinner on his pullover, no paint on his shirt, his shoes were still shiny.....and he was full of it....the school day, that is

I hope he does Jen........he is interested in everything, and we hope he will stay that way.
He loves his new uniform, I think it makes him feel grown up. |
