Dark and Drear....

Posted 22-12-2004 at 19:01 by Margaret Pilkington
Well, it hasn't got light properly today.... and yesterday was so bright.
I got some of the grocery shopping done today, but want to leave the lettuce and stuff like that until friday.....need to get some cream and swiss rolls or there will be no trifle......I don't suppose we would die if we didn't get trifle...... but I am looking forward to it.
I don't plan to stuff my guts, but I don't make trifle and cheesecake at any other time of year......and I do only have a little portion...HONEST!
What stops me eating everything in front of me is realising how much walking it will take to get it all off again after Christmas.
We had the ankle biter today..... it was our choice to do that so that his mum could have a bit...

Shortest Day...

Posted 21-12-2004 at 20:34 by Margaret Pilkington
Today was the Winter Solstice... otherwise known as the shortest day.
That is not really true, it is still 24 hours long, it is just that there are fewer hours of daylight......and from today the days lengthen by a cock stride.....thank goodness. I am very poor in winter.....I don't want to leave my pit and am hungry all the time......I think perhaps I should hibernate. I don't usually start feeling better until about the beginning of March...and January is a real downer......I try to get away somewhere just to break up the winter.....the last 2 years we have been in Australia so I have been OK......don't know how I will be this year.

Nearer....

Posted 19-12-2004 at 21:44 by Margaret Pilkington
This time next week it will all be over for another year.
I am much nearer being ready.....as you can see from my previous entry I have dragged the tree out from its resting place......sorted all the baubles and dressed the tree.....and I think I should be allowed to declare a miracle......the tree lights worked first time and they were not tangled! Other years I have had to go through all the bulbs to check which one had died.....don't you just hate that? and even though I swear I put away the lights neatly.....the tangle fairy gets in and musses them up..... but not today.
It did take me about 6 hours to do the tree..... that was mainly because about half way through the dressing, it over balanced and the whole shebang went...

Watch me dance around with glee,
I've just trimmed the Christmas tree.
Found the balls, tinsel and the lights....
Oh it is a pretty sight....
But it was not without stress,
The tree fell over, what a mess.
All the decs I'd placed with care...
In a heap all lying there.
Didn't swear, just counted ten
Then I put them back again.
Pasha found a golden ball.....
Chased it round into the hall....
Seemed a little disappointed when
I hung that back on the tree again.
I placed the gifts beneath the tree,
Oh how I wish that you could see
The work I've done....I feel quite proud
and happy too, 'cos that's allowed!

Walked our little legs off...

Posted 18-12-2004 at 21:48 by Margaret Pilkington
Went into Blackburn today... in search of the elusive Chrimbo pressies.
Got down just after 10 am and we didn't get back until after 3.
I was surprised that it was not busier.....maybe everyone has done all their Christmas shopping!
Walked round and round trying to decide what to buy and then had lunch. Grandad looked after the ankle biter so were were unencumbered by a pram.....ever so glad about that.
There are plans to perhaps go to Bury on Monday and do the last bits...but it IS coming together now......and I have just spent a couple of hours wrapping presents....so I don't feel so bad about filling in my Journal tonight. I know that I won't need any rocking tonight.
