I was kept awake last night by my extravagant purchase......I kept on thinking of what the money would have been better spent on.......it would have almost paid for the loft to be insulated...keeping us warm this winter. The loft is already insulated, but we have considered increasing the insulation to keep the heat in the house and reduce those winter heating bills.
I keep on thinking, that now we have spent the money on this frippery....and the heating bills are going to go through the roof, literally........a diamond ring won't keep us warm.
But in the end sleep overtook me and this morning I told myself that I AM worth it, that I deserve something beautiful in my life.......and that if the winter is really cold and we fear big...

It was my birthday during the week, and hubby had planned for us to go to Manchester...have a look around the shops(and maybe buy me something)...and then have lunch out.
Wednesday was the day, and the weather was awful. I woke up early planning to shower and get myself ready so that there would be no delays...but when I looked out of the window and saw the rain pouring down.......I felt it in my water, that the day out would be cancelled....and it was.
Hubby mumbled something about 'not walking round in that lot'....but to be honest I didn't feel like going either.

My daughter rang me and asked if we were doing anything special......I told her that our little jaunt out was 'off'.
She said that they were going...

Before we went away Ma phoned the hotel to ask to be put in the dining room at a table waited on by David.....he had been our waiter on a couple of visits before......Mum had a real soft spot for him (her bed, I think)......he always made a fuss of her and he was easy on the eye...and delightfully young.
The last time we were at the hotel, David had just done his exams to enter the Royal Navy.
I suggested to Ma that perhaps he would have left by now...and that is why she rang up.
They told her he hadn't left yet.
On the first night down at dinner we were allocated a table that was waited on by a very pleasant(but ditzy) scots girl.
I could see Ma scanning the dining room for David. He was nowhere to be seen....

I was talking to Ma today.....we were saying what a lovely time we had last week......and wishing we were still on holiday...well, except that the Isle of Wight will be over run with pop music lovers......and both of us are a bit long in the tooth for shaking our booty.

Ma was saying that if we ever go again and it is in the season, we are going to get tickets for the Island Breezer...this will let us be more independent about where we want to go....and of course we will be able to stay in places of interest a little bit longer.
That is one of the problems (if you want to call it that) with coach tours......you sit all day on the coach and are given maybe an hour at places where you'd like to perhaps spend half a day....

The island was getting into gear for the forthcoming Isle of Wight Festival......many of the hotels were full and had the 'No Vacancies' signs up.
Newport was off limits towards the end of the week as there were roads that were either blocked off, or so busy that it didn't bear thinking about.

So Thursday, we gave Cowes the flick and instead we went off to Godshill. It was a beautiful sunny morning...though rain was forecast. (it never happened)
Ma and I went into the lovely posh shop and had a browse...then we went into the tea rooms.
Ma ordered us both a coffee......and a ginormous meringue for herself to take away.......she bought me a Millionaires shortbread....I protested, but it didn't make an 'apporth...
