Health restored

I didn't go for the flat foot study interview after all, I was feeling too rough to make the effort, so they sent me a questionaire instead.
It is about 2 months ago now when I hit 'rock bottom'.
I was sleeping 11 hours a day - awake 2 - sleep 2. When awake I felt weary and breathless.
It had been getting gradually worse for a year. When I told the doc about my sleep problem he said 'drink lots of coffee'.
I lost faith in the medics 20 years ago when I was poisoned by prescription meds, so I knew I would have to find the answer myself - and I have.
The solution was there on the web - deficiency of vitamin B12. My symptoms fitted precicely.
If you google that you will get some NHS 'netdocor' which gives false info.
The medics in this country think that vit B12 deficiency means only pernicious anaemia - it doesn't.
I asked for blood tests and the result was 'no anaemia' - 'B12 count over 400' - 'you are fine'.
Some countries set danger levels at 550.
Left untreated, B12 deficiency can be misdiagnosed as MS, peripheral neuropathy, dementia, narcolepsy, and a host of other nasties. It affects people in different ways and so rarely gets diagnosed correctly due to our docs having little knowledge about it.
There was one lone voice in our Nhs wilderness who knew - Dr Joseph Chandry, now retired, who used to provide B12 injections for his patients at his own expense.
The causes of B12 deficiency are many. Some are due to antacid medications, a vegetarian diet, a genetic fault, or simply old age deterioration of the stomach lining.
So I have to cure myself. I can't get any injections so the alternative is absorption via sublingual lozenges. Since my gut was damaged by docs 20 yrs ago (Ecoli) taking B12 in a pill won't help, and is the reason why I can't get the vitamin from my food. It can take 20 yrs for the deficiency symptoms to show.
Within days of taking vitamin supplementation, I was no longer having the need for daytime sleeps, my breathlessness reduced by 50% and the dead nerve in my arm (2 numb fingers) stirred into life again.
I will need to use these lozenges for the rest of my life and I don't get them free - a small price to pay for health.
The alternative was probably dementia, and gradual damage to all my nervous system - wheelchair and zimmer frame now avoided.
I am now optimistic that my old age can be active and independant - what we all would wish for.

Think you should get back to the docs and tell him how your health has improved. Surely you should be able to get the injections.
It gets me so mad hearing of mis-diagnosis both Ian and his Mum had cancer for quite some time before it was diagnosed. Makes you wonder if they could have still been alive!!! |

My doc knows I have cured myself and regrets he is bound by NHS rules and can't give me injections.
