If you read my last blog you will know I now have been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis and emphysema.
The consultant said he was very concerned and said he will want to see me again in a couple of months and in the mean time to take some tablets 3 times a day
he said I might have a problem getting hold of them though and if I did to get back to him.
anyway I took the prescription to Lloyds chemist on Blackburn road (my usual chemist) I was telling them there might be a problem but the cocky chemist said oh we will have them in stock she went round the back and came back very sheepish saying this will have to be a special order and will take some time to get them.
I now have the tablets ACC 600 the active ingredient being ACETYLCYSTEINE
don't ask I don't have a clue as they had to send to Germany for them and the leaflet inside is in German all I know is I have to take them 3 times a day.
now these have to go on repeat prescription so I can see me having problems getting them

I have COPD and since I got birch pollen hay fever earlier this year, my breathlessness has got really bad. My son was alarmed by how bad I was and called social services. Just before I moved I was on the 'virtual' respiratory ward for a few weeks and had 3 nurse visits, so I was classified as needing 'post hospital rehab' for 6 weeks- just ended. This social services assessment has provided me with free disability aids (bath lift, trolley, perching chair) as well as two carer visits a week for 6 weeks for assisted bathing.
Unfortunately Spiriva and inhaled steroids have given me nasty side effects so I am back to self reliance (no meds) yet again.
So when I read your blog and saw what was prescribed for you, I became very interested.
The name 'ACETYLCYSTEINE' rang a bell - and I found I actually have some in my supplement stock. Four years ago I was using it to combat fatigue, and stopped using it when it didn't energise me. There isn't an expiry date on it so I am considering trying it again for my COPD.
So please continue this blog to report any effects - I will wait for your report before I start using it.
I imported it from iherb.com California USA, as I do with most of my supplements, because the EU have restricted sale of many supplements and herbals.
