Bypass
Posted 04-07-2005 at 13:48 by Mick
Well its finally going to happen .my heart bypass op(i had a heard attack a few years ago that left me with angina )
I got a letter through this morning from the hospital, saying i have to go for a pre-op checkup.
The op will be in Blackpool ,but the pre-op tests will be done in Blackburn on the 30th August .
I am VERY nerves now so what i will be like near the time god knows .
I have had 2 Angiograms the results being QUOTE" 2 Arteries are nearly blocked and 1 looks like a bit of string"
This op has had to be put off before as i have had to have 3 other ops on my back as i had 2 absesses on the lower spine and they would not do the heart op incase of infections .
On 1 of these occasions the op was due on the monday , i was admitted on the sunday morning neather me or the wife drive so the wife got 1 of those rover tickets anyway i got sorted had my tea and was told i could have a bacon butty for supper and a cup of tea as i would be the second down in the morning,
Its only a minor op well it is to them i was still very nerves over it
came the morning had a shower and given a theatre gown you know one of them open at the back things very fetching .
Then waited 2 hours later they took me down to theatre the anathetist was shocked to find out i had NOT had a pre med injection so she gave me 1 to calm me a bit ,they wired me to the ecg and had me on all the monitors and oxygen ready because of my Heart condition, we waited for the surgeon halve an hour later we are still waiting finally he came in and said there would be a delay as there was no spare bed in HDU so he went to sort it out 1 hour later he came back and said sorry we are going to have to cancel the op there is no bed .
they took me back to the ward and gave me a cup of tea while we were waiting to find out when they could do the op .
He came back and said they would send me a new date and i can go home talk about shock .
anyway i phoned the wife to fetch my stuff in and told her what had happend just as she arrived there was a phone call from theatre asking the ward sister where i was they were waiting for me !!!
so i hope the bypass op goes better than this.
the wife was blazing she wanted to write to the papers over it but it would not have made any differance .
plus she lost her £10 for a wasted bus pass
foot note
The Surgeon i have is very straight talking he said this bypass op has 4 outcomes
1) it will stop the angina and you will be ok
2) it will leave you just the same
3) it could make it worse
4) you could die under the anasthetic but thats only a 2 per cent chance
fine just what i wanted to hear

Re: Bypass
Mick......my brother in law...also called Mick had a triple by-pass op......he could do almost nothing before it.....but afterwards....WOW you should have seen him.
He got a new lease of life.
They have to tell you ALL the consequences for legal reasons.
I hope things go well for you......I can understand the nervousness....you wouldn't be normal not to be nervous. You know that there will be a whole lot of folks on here who will be willing you to get better very soon.Posted 04-07-2005 at 19:50 by Margaret Pilkington -

Re: Bypass
only just started reading the blogs so that's why this comment is delayed. I can understand the nerves Mick but you also know it's something you need to have done. We'll all be thinking of you and when it comes to it you'll have the whole of accy web behind you. When it does come to you going to blackpool give me a shout. I'd be only to happy to take you and anne over and bring you back rather than relying on public transportPosted 29-07-2005 at 09:20 by harwood red
