R.I.P Spike

Posted 18-09-2006 at 13:00 by MUMMIBOO

What a bad day i had yesterday! i got up in the morning and made the kids their breakfast, in the night i heard someone shouting their dog i got up and looked out the window my thoughts for my 21 year old deaf cat spike, everything was fine i went back to bed.

Like i said i was making toast and i said to Mick, just have a look outside and see if Spikes ok, he went to look and he said theres a dog in the garden, and came back in because he only had a towel on, then he heard something and went to the window he saw the dog ragging Spike like it was a rag toy, the dog a staffordshire bull terrier, was not on a lead i went out in my pyjamas i found Spike on the pavement near the road his back had been broken and he had internal bleeding, i bent down to him by this time tears streaming down my face and i was shaking uncontrollably, he meowed to me and i sat on the kerb a neighbour brought me a towel i scooped him up and he died in my arms.

During this time the person who was out with the dog (not the owner) had booted the dog it was in next doors garden cowering in the corner mick went inside and threw on some clothes and went outside with a spade to kill the dog but the dog jumped the fence and went home.

The smoke alarm was blarring as the toast was burning the kids still sat in the front room eating their toast watching tv oblivious to it all.

The lad the dog was with went to get the owner he said this was the 3rd cat in 3 weeks and the dog is only 2 years old mick was soo angry, i went out and i asked what if it had been a child he said oh no it wont go for a child i he said he has six children and its never been for them i said its capable the dog has instinks to kill he wouldnt agree its only a matter of time before it does if my son had seen the dog going for the cat he would have gone out to it and he woud have been bitten without a doubt.

In a way im glad mick didnt get to the dog as its not the dogs fault really but the owners fault for not keeping it on alead and muzzel im sure you have to have a licence for those dogs!

His dog was only 2 years old, my cat had survived for 21 years spike never ever left the garden he used to come and meet me at the gates when i finished work at 10pm, i will miss him soo much it like i have had a child die, he should have died of old age when he was ready not because some half wit went out for a walk with a staff without a lead.

I will miss him soo much nobody will understand the bond we had, i saved his live 10 years ago when we took him to live at our house because our friends parents were splitting up and they didnt want him i took him and looked after him and loved him soo much and he loved us back he knew he used to save me in my dreams when i was in a bad situation he would come and save me right back.

The night before he died he came and sat on my chest and we had a giggle i gave him a kiss on his cheek and he kissed me back.

Rest in peace spike,
I love you and will never forget you.

Oh Mummiboo, what a sorry story. I am really sorry that you lost Spike in such terrible circumstances. It must have been a horrendous experience for you and your family. I'm glad you got to cuddle Spike to the end, and that he died knowing he was loved. Rest in Peace Spike.
We all feel like we shouldn't be so sad over the loss of a pet, but we make them part of our family and you need to grieve over him as a family member.
    My thoughts are with you.

It's good that your children never saw what happened. This dog has to be put down now it has killed it would go for a child no matter what that idiot told you. I'm not a cat lover but no animal or owner deserves what you have been through.
