The shift from hell last night. More like my normal pattern. Everybody said being quiet was too good to last. Never mind, it's my last night tonight and I can have tomorrow off. I can put up with anything on my last night. The worst thing is having to scrape the frost off your windscreen before going home when all you want to do is sleep. How I manage to make it in one piece down the M65 is a bloody miracle. I seriously think that the car knows it's own way home.

How nice.

I can't believe I have had 2 nice nights at work. No dire emergencies just a nice turnover of women coming in to deliver. It's usually heaving on that ward when I'm on duty, to the point where I have got a reputation for all hell breaking loose on my shift. I was greeted on my first night back by a nice bottle of wine from a lady I delivered 2 weeks ago, as a thankyou. Those kind of thankyous are always welcome, very much appreciated. I've even managed a good sleep today, I only got 4 hours yesterday so was really tired this morning. Having said that, I'm now dossing in my dressing gown writing this, so I'd better get dressed soon as Sparky is coming round for a brew. Could do with writing some Christmas cards too. Apart from the cards I think...

A non-day

Posted 16-12-2004 at 12:02 by lettie

It's a funny day today, kind of a non-day if you would. I have just had 12 days off work and have to go back tonight. I hate nights, I don't think I know anyone who actually likes working them but needs must I suppose. The bad thing about the first night in work is that you seem to be waiting all day to go to work. I try to have a lazy day and will probably go back to bed for a couple of hours this afternoon so that I will last the night. Been on a long walk with the dog and I've a bit of tidying up to do then bed. It's a depressing day. The good thing is that when I do get to work I really enjoy it and the night goes quickly, but all I'll do for the next 4 days is work and sleep.

I hate shopping!!! I've been promising myself some new shoes so I trotted off to Blackburn today to search for some. Couldn't find any that I liked, they all had killer heels on them, I'm 5ft 8ins for God's sake, why would I need skyscraper heels. Barring my height I can't walk in them if they are any higher than an inch and a half. Ended up with a new jumper instead. I traipsed round all the shops to find one jumper that I liked that didn't have a hood or flowery/glittery bits on it. I like stuff to be plain, I suppose I'm just not a girly girl.

The good thing about today is that I am going to the Old Silent Inn for my tea. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Their steak is fabulous with stilton in the middle of it,...

Spoke too soon

Well I had to open my big gob. 2 and a half hours to get home from work. Grrrrrr. Some sodding manhole cover subsided just before thelwall viaduct. Why we don't just fill the sodding Manchester Ship canal in is a mystery to me. There is sod all boats use it anymore. Meanwhile there are only two ways of any significance of getting over the thing so any problem and the whole of northern england grinds to a halt.

Meanwhile work is going silly. WebSphere on three boxes refuses to dump its namespace, PM is baying for the environment and I'm getting silly amount of support requests. Ah well, only a fortnight to Xmas.

Need to go now, work calls
