The day after our night out with Kiwi John we headed to Napier Airport for a domestic flight to Christchurch. The airport is just on the outskirts of Napier, a short taxi ride away. It's a small airport but very modern. There's a tiny little check in area and a small cafe area and a departure gate........That's it!!!!!

What a refreshing change not to have to go through rigourous security. We checked our cases through to Christchurch as we were changing planes in Wellington. We got a brew and sat in some seats near the window overlooking the small runway. A tiny little passenger plane landed and 40 or so passengers got off the plane by means of a little step ladder. They then walked into the terminal, through the departure door...

Sudden Death.

I suppose it is what we would all like when our time comes..... a sudden end. None of this lingering about with long faced family and friends gathered around your bedside.
And I reckon it is a good way to go.....out with a bang, not a whimper.
But, for those left behind a sudden death is tragic. One minute the person they loved is here and seemingly in robust health, the next minute they are gone.
No time for farewells, or last words.
Dealing with a suden death can be very traumatic too, with the inevitable police presence. Though my experience of this has been that the officers concerned were very sensitive to the needs of the bereaved.
A sudden death also usually means that there has to be a post mortem to establish...

Off to Alum.

After our lovely lunch at the Wheatsheaf.....we made a brief visit to the church in Yarmouth.
We were told that here we would find the statue of a former governor of the Island.....and that if we looked carefully, all was not as it seems. The body of the statue is that of Louis the 14th(can't do those silly roman numerals) and the head was grafted onto the body.
The body was captured from a french ship.......and yes, you can tell.....the scale is just a bit different which makes the statue look like it has a big head.
The church was well worth a visit as a piano recital was being held......and although I couldn't stay and listen to the whole thing. what I heard was lovely.
The stained glass windows were beautiful too.......I...

I don't know why it is, but every time we go away, I wake every morning at the crack of dawn.
Maybe the Seagull alarm clock had a little to do with this.
Tuesday and 5.30 am......I am wide awake.
wasn't sure what the day was going to be like(weatherwise) and really didn't want to be stirring in case Ma was still asleep.

Mind you, I suppose I had had my full quota of sleep, since we were both tucked up by 9pm last night.
I reached out to get my glasses off the night table and Ma heard me and asked what the morning was like...and what time was it?

I got out of bed and peeked through the curtains.......dawn was just about breaking and the tip of the sun was just peering over the horizon.
