Feeling rotten...

Posted 17-04-2008 at 23:21 by shillelagh

I've been feeling rotten for the last couple of days. Thought it was a spring cold coming on when i got the shivering on tuesday and i mean this - i had goosebumps the size of lumps on my face. Then i started sneezing. Then tuesday night the sore throat started. It was bad i could hardly swallow and no buttercup syrup in the house, no tunes, but i had lemsips. So had one of them and hoped it would kick in and i'd be fine for work on wednesday. Goes to bed shivering under the covers with a hot water bottle. Wednesday morning a phone call at 8.15 got a grunt. Fell back asleep. Woke up again at 9.25am - im due to be at work at 10. Sat up and went dizzy and tried to talk .. try being the operative word!!! I could hardly talk just about make myself heard. Rang in work - and did i sound rough and said i'd go in Friday instead. They said ok. So goes back to bed and woke up about 2pm sticks shower on and left it running to get a build of steam up. The steam eased my throat and i could talk!!! Gets out of shower and starts shivering about 10 mins after so dives back in bed and woke up then about 7pm. Goes to shop cos i knew i didnt have any soup in - didnt fancy what i had for my tea it would have felt rough going down my throat. So got a couple of tins of soup - they had buttercup syrup and some tunes and throat & chest relievers - theyre lethal them but they do the job!!! Came home and got something to eat and started sucking on the tunes and got the buttercup syrup down me. Oh could i speak better. Now wednesday was my great nephews birthday and he was 5. I was going to call round after work and give him his card seeing as they only live 5 mins away. Well that went out the window when i didnt go to work and sleeping all day. So rang up my niece and she said its like a madhouse here. So i said i was just ringing up to wish him a happy birthday and i'd drop round on either Thursday or Friday to bring his card. The plan was to ring my bro and ask him to call on his way down... well by time i woke up it was too late - he would have already been down there. She said i'd tell him when everything has calmed down a bit. I was also supposed to be sending some hoover bags up to grangemouth. Spug had bust his last hoover bag and everywhere he went he couldnt find any to fit his hoover. So i said id have a look down here for some for him. Found em on the net - so i knew what i was looking for and then went in wilkies on tues and they had some so rang him to check he still hadnt got any but i'd missed the post so i brought em home and was going to send em on wed after work. Call in the post office when i was on my way home... Anyway they were posted today. Went down town today throat still bad but i could swallow a bit more than what i could. Got some lemons, thats me breaking the no alcohol vow - will have a hot toddy before i go to bed got some strepsils - they dont work, better off with the throat and chest relievers and tunes, some more lemsips and so hopefully come tomorrow i will be able to talk proper, the headache will go, stop shivering and i will go to work and take the birthday card round. Just been talking to spug - he says its chucking it down up there and very windy and says its heading south and we'll get it tomorrow!!! He also says its supposed to be in double figures up there tomorrow and blue sunny skies - we'll see!!!
