.. and flipping driving me nuts ...
im on my 4th cast .. and i still have nearly 4 weeks to go .. and trying to keep it dry especially in this weather is flipping hard ... started off with a kind of half cast .. not a full one the old plaster type that was brilliant to write on .. but that had to come off when i went up to the spugsters for his birthday .. it got tight and fingers started swelling up and my knuckles were going a funny blue colour .. so the spugster dragged me off to the a & e up there 4hrs it took for em to cut it off and they put the full cast on - gave me a choice - black, white, green or neon pink .. and was sorely tempted for the neon pink .. the nurse said are you a girly girl ..and i said look at me - over spugsters laughter - do i look like a girly girl - pair of jeans, trainers, tshirt ... i said you choose and she gave me a black one.
that lasted 2 weeks - went to fracture clinic he said when did you last break it .. never broke it before .. are you sure .. yeah im sure id have remembered a cast on my wrist .. anyway we'll leave it on for another week and and come back next week and we'll cut it off and xray it ..
so went back last week and had the black one cut off .. re xrayed and got a different doc .. he says youve cracked your scaphoid ... you need another cast putting on and come back in 5 weeks!!! WHAT!!! 5 WEEKS!!!
couldnt believe it ..especially after what the doc had said the week before!!! so i got a choice of what colour of cast again .. red, black, white, purple, blue and neon pink .. again i nearly chose the neon pink ... but went for purple ..reasoning : white shows the dirt too much, black had tried dying my hand in the heat we had, red because the bandage is white at the ends im no man utd supporter, blue same as the red except im no rovers supporter my nephews would never speak to me again ..so it came down to neon pink or purple ..so i went for the purple ..
that lasted till tues this week .. when i gave up and after popping painkillers like sweeties since friday nite .. rang the fracture clinic up and they told me to go in in the afternoon. it was getting tight and in pain my little finger was starting to cross over the rest of my fingers, couldnt straighten my arm without my elbow screaming at me ... so went back and they cut it off and xrayed my arm and elbow just incase id done some damage ... doc says ive got tennis elbow .. and i got replastered again for the scaphoid ...this time its red ...but since its been replastered i can straighten my arm out without as much pain and im not knocking back the painkillers ... so now all i have to do is keep it dry and pray nowt else goes wrong .. cos i dont think the plasterers at blackburn will be happy to see me again

i'll do another bout the fun and games you have cooking showering brewing up etc finger typing does take it out of you!!!

Jen, you are having a right old time of it........must be difficult trying to do things with a pot on.
And anyway, when did you take up tennis......no, I'm only yanking your chain. Tennis elbow is no fun at all.
Hope everything gets back to normal soon.......and next time you hit Spugs....don't use your hand(specially not the pot one)

oh he knows what its like ... i have swiped him a few times and he dont like it cos its not like the old plaster cast or like the first one which was the old plaster one. these are a kind of bandage which they wet and its like the old coarse bandages they had ... think its like fibreglass or something .. they put it on like a bandage and it hardens up in about half an hour ... and its rough not smooth .. so it catches on jumpers etc

I can totally sympathise. Broke my right Trapezium 11 years ago. They initially thought it was Scaphoid so I had to go through all the rigmarole with the pot, but had it removed because it was causing me pain (Trapeziums are potted differently). Had the pot rectified when they realised it wasn't a Scaphoid. Had trouble wiping my own bum...... Nobody tells you how difficult the little things are when you have to use the opposite hand :-)
