the life of me
Mad saturday's
Well ever since my kids started going Ice skating lessons on a Saturday morning, the lie in's are out the window.
Every Saturday the kids go to Blackburn Ice arena for Ice skating lessons, then they have a 2 hour skate on afterwards.
I actually enjoy going and watching them skate. My eldest is onto badge five and my youngest who only started 2 weeks ago is working towards his 2nd badge.
When they first started going, the arena wasn't very busy.... could get through, get skates and get skates on in about 10 minutes.
This morning
no chance, they were queuing right out the door..I didn't understand why it was so busy...until someone told us that it always gets busy when dancing on ice is on
you know the thing... Mummy and daddy watching skating on ice on a sunday night thinks ' oh our FiFi and trixabel would be fantastic at that...we'll get them lessons '
Anyway the person I was talking to said " don't worry, when the show finishes, a lot just stop doing it "
Phewwww
Anyway, the most amusing part of the morning for me is when the kids have had their lessons. They then have to leave the ice for half an hour to let the adults on to do their lessons..........
Oh the fun I have watching men and women of 30/40 year old, trying their very best to even manage to stay on their skates!! What possesses a person at that age to all of a sudden think " oh I know what I'll do, I'll have Ice skating lessons"
Now, these people are on full view of everyone in the ice arena.....and boy is it funny!! quite a few times I have nearly wee'ed myself laughing.....(( If it wasn't so bloody cold in that place))
Adults are just not designed to try and learn to skate later on in life. Fair enough, if they skated since being a child and can stand up....
But they have no balance, no co-ordination and no guts.
So that has been pretty much my day.... just sat in front of fire when I got home, it takes about 3 hours to warm up after being in Ice arena for 3 hours.
13 weeks on Thursday to go till Holidays
(( not that I'm counting down the days))

Slinky, I am not sure about the guts and determination of the older adults.
i always wanted roller blades....My daughter bought them for my 50th birthday....she said it was the best laugh ever....but I did master them, and surprisingly didn't fall too often. I'm sure ice skating is along similar lines......and even now at 60 I would give it a go...though hubby says 'Old bones break easily, and take a long time to mend' You see, I don't actually see myself as 'old'. |

Don't get me wrong Margaret!! I said 30/40 year old.... I'm more on the 30 side myself, but I can think of better things to do with my saturday mornings than making an Arse of myself in front of approx 200 strangers lol.
And yes I guess roller blading/booting is similar to Ice skating!! Only thing is, you don't get your fingers chopped off with a roller boot and when you fall... you tend to stop, instead of skiding another 3 mile then hitting a very hard board with your head ![]() Its all very amusing anyway |

Oh No Slinky, I wasn't being critical. I would do it in a flash if i thought my old creaky knees would stand it....and I would mind if it gave someone a laugh.
I get the point about the blades on ice skates OUCH! |
