Not My Season

Posted 26-09-2005 at 20:23 by West Ender

My daughter in law is a lovely girl. She's a little bit Hippy and New Age but she's a computer technician and knows her stuff so it's not all "fairies". She's been married to my son for 7 years and they were together for 9 years before that. She plays bass guitar in his band and "roadies" for the AC/DC tribute band he plays in. They live in Manchester with their 2 cats in an old house with a blue plaque on the wall that says a well-known suffragist lived there and they're a lovely couple.

We get on well, my daughter in law and me, but there's one thing we just DON'T have in common. She's getting happier because Winter is approaching. She loves cold dark evenings, rain and snow, frost on the ground and her wearing thick coats, boots and gloves. I love sunshine, long light Summer evenings, wearing short shorts, gardening until 10 p.m., hot weather.

I like going abroad, I go to Malta regularly for the heat and the sunshine. My daughter in law wants to go to Finland - in the Winter.

So, for the next 6 months or so I'll be suffering from S.A.D., and probably getting away to Malta for a bit of sunshine, while she walks round with a beaming smile that's almost obscured by a big wooly scarf.

Sounds like a hippy chick after my own heart. I love summer and being outside all day, but, I adore autumn & winter all the golden tones and twigs lovely! I love being inside snuggled up on the sofa when its late afternoon and snowing/raining outside. I even had loads of twigs in my wedding bouquet!! So wrap up and try and enjoy it ,and before you know it the sun will be smiling at you againXX

I get that too......I can feel the lethargy creeping on already, and my craving for carbs too.
The last 3 years I have wintered in Oz and it was Heaven. It isn't the cold that gets to me....although it DOES slow up my joints a bit....it is the lack of sunlight. Sunny winter days are a little easier...but I put the clocks back with trepidation.

I too love winter..........curled up next to ginger, on a cold night, with the fire roaring and a nice warm drink. Watching the snow falling outside, and everything is crisp and white outside. The t.v is good too in winter!!
