Trivia

I've been and bought the pressure washer. I went to Homebase and it was 10% Off Everything Day so I got it for 63, which isn't at all bad, and of course you get Nectar points now too.

Yesterday I finally got the items I ordered weeks ago from Easylife. They are one of those firms who put out small catalogues with gadgets and things in. I had ordered an electronic can-opener, one of those where you just touch a button and the can gets opened, a small folding step and a garden kneeler/seat thingy. The latter is great, it folds flat but, when opened, if you put it one way up it's a comfortable kneeler for weeding etc. Turn it the other way up and it's a seat. It's ideal for me as I have to sit down more when I'm gardening,...

Sad Events

My colleague and friend, Chris, died 2 years ago. She was only 54 and hadn't been ill very long. She had an operation on her bowel but then had to have another and died 3 days later. She had transferred to Crewe office so we didn't ever find out what the cause was but it all happened rather quickly.

Chris was small and blonde and very into horses. She had had a horse of her own since she was a teenager, used her wages from a paper round to help pay for its keep. Now she had 3 and was a Pony Club show judge. The family were far from well off and lived in a small semi but they were all horse mad.

Her son and daughter had always ridden and both were keen show jumpers. Every morning before work Chris and her...

A Bit of This and That - None of The Other, I'm Afraid.

Posted 21-09-2009 at 22:48 by West Ender

We've still got Jo's pressure washer. I went to have a look at them in Homebase, last week, but they only had 2. One was a Karcher at 80 and the other was RAC and cost 150. I may end up with the Karcher but I'm one of those shoppers who weighs up every pro and con then, usually, ends up with the first thing I saw.

We've been doing a bit at a time, well, I say we but it's mainly Nik as I get exhausted very quickly and it's not a job you can do sitting down. I do the lawn-mowing with a chair and plonk on it frequently but you can't do that with your patio under water. Anyway, it's amazing. Part of my garden, beyond the kitchen, is crazy paved. It was like that when we bought the house 30 years ago and...

Music, Hoofing and a Grimy Patio

Posted 14-09-2009 at 21:30 by West Ender

I've been thinking of getting a pressure washer for a while now. I have a large patio and another paved area in my back garden and they do get mucky. Anyway, our Jo has one so I've borrowed it. She brought it over on Friday evening.

My back's been a bit dicey for a few days so Nik said she'd have a go with the washer and, on Saturday afternoon, she got started. She put her wellies on, Laura put hers on, and they went out armed with the washer and a deck-scrubber.

I was impressed with what a strong jet of water could do. We haven't any detergent so it's just pressure that's doing the cleaning but, oh boy, was it dirty. After 2 afternoons we now have a half clean patio with wellie marks and a pool of sludge on...

Tweeting

Posted 26-08-2009 at 21:34 by West Ender

I've signed up to Twitter. I haven't a clue what I'm doing, really, but I've made a couple of posts. You can look up all sorts of people on Twitter and, if they're a member, read what they have to say. You can also "follow" people, where you automatically see their posts, and I'm following Stephen Fry.

This following business is a bit like stalking. You can send a message to that person via email or a mobile phone (I wouldn't know where to start on my phone) but they only see your posts if they're following you. I hope you're following this.

I decided to follow Stephen Fry because he is a well known tweeter; that's what we on Twitter are, we tweet. He will also talk to anybody (famous...
