No, so may be they were the places that the town planner had on his 'places to visit before I die' list!

Re: no town street name
You think you've got problems? Are there any roads with as many names as the main road at the bottom of my road, here in Lymm? It starts off in Thelwall, Warrington, as Stockport Rd., then it's Camsley Lane - Booths Hill Rd. - Church Rd. - Higher Lane - Agden Brow. All this takes place on a stretch of road no more than 4 miles long.
Travelling via Lymm village centre towards Manchester we have - Eagle Brow - The Cross - New Rd. - Rush Green Rd. - Birchbrook Rd. - Warrington Rd., all the same road and about 3 miles long,
Now I know that from the centre of Accrington all the way to Intack it's just Blackburn Rd., even if the numbers start again at West End, and then I think it's Accrington Rd. 'til you get to Eanam (I may be wrong - it's 45 years ago).
Why no Oswaldtwistle Rd.? I think it's to do with markets and churches. Roads were originally designated as pointers towards the next market town or the next parish church.

Think you will find probably something to do with the countries that our textile industry dealt with, best to ask on this thread :-

Places like India Street, Swiss Street etc - these are the names of countries the famous Frederick Steiner (founder of famous dye works at Church) exported to.

Re: no town street name
I have read recently that some call centres which are being withdrawn from international locations will be replaced, not by a call centre here, but by workers who will be working from home.

That would be interesting margaret, one person could become an agent for several banks then, that would be a good earner

Re: no town street name
A lot of call centres already serve more than one client. A prompt pops up on the agents screen for whatever company the caller is dialling and the screen switches to that companies system.
Ocassionally there is a pause for the agent but the call still comes through so thats why you sometimes get a basic "Good morning how can I help you" as opposed to Welcome to X". They are basically padding the conversation till their screen switches over
There is a certain amount of home call 'centre' work happening, mainly as it happens over VOIP. Its allowing people with kids etc to fit work around them. Its still a bit new and being watched for its potential but it will never become a major slice of the workforce as its too hard to control the infrastructure in case of problems.
