Re: Accrington born artists.

Elsewhere under this 'Accrington Hall of Fame' I have mentioned John Priestley Briggs 1868-1944, an architect famed for his work on theatre design.

Re: Accrington born artists.

Does anyone know of a local artist by the name of Jack Aldus, he lived around Brunswick Terrace in Accrington, not sure of exact location. we have an oil painting of a pekinese dog given by him to my wife when she was about six years old, so this must have the early fifties. I also know someone local who has a landscape by him painted in the thirties.

No luck?

I have asked around, people who get about more than I do even looked in the phone book, no joy.

I've never heard of her but there's an Accy artist mentioned on the Telegraph site today.

Dennis Constantine - Photographer (1927 -2011)

Dennis Constantine, who has died aged 84, was a portrait photographer whose subjects included the Queen, Sophia Loren and Idi Amin. His passion for photography began when he was assigned to air reconnaissance during the second world war.

He was born in Lancashire and went to Accrington grammar school (now Accrington academy). He originally wanted to become a quantity surveyor but war intervened, and he served at RAF Kankesanturai in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), and later in Japan.

Re: Accrington born artists.

Good find Garinda.I was unaware of him being an AGSOB but suspect that he is one of a line of Constantines who were professional photgraphers in Accrington and Haslingden. In the picture postcard era, the family firm produced plebnty of pics of Accrington, many of them decoartive in that they were surrounded by leaves.
