24 St James St Accrington

We have discovered that my husbands ancestor lived at 24 St James St
in 1901. This is the current address of Barlow rowland and the buildings
seem quite grand. Does any know whether street numbers may have altered since then ??? 10 years later two of the sisters of the family
had a milliners at 4 warner street.
I know the library did have many old photographs of accrington - are these easy to access now ?
Many thanks
Maria

Re: 24 St James St Accrington

Hello, the library do have a super collection of photos, but I dont seem to recall them having that many of St James Street, but its certainly worth you going in (if you can that is, if not I can pop in for you and have a look).
What surname were your ancestors. If they lived in such a fine building, maybe they left their mark in the town?

Re: 24 St James St Accrington

Hello Atarah
Many thanks for your reply. I actually live in accrington so I will go
and ask at the library in case they do have any old photos.
Its strange - I do have the correct family Cavanagh - but they were a poor family who had moved to accrington from widnes when the father had died 10 years earlier so a mystery. Its a beautiful row of houses. One of their neighbours shown on the 1901 census was a dentist.

thanks
