Re: Accrington Railway Station
Nice photographs and a very poignant reminder of when the town used to have a proper railway station, instead of just two semi-derelict platforms.

Re: Accrington Railway Station
The two pics of the steam train are one and the same, mirror images. Look at the time on the clock and the loco no. on the front. The middle pic is the back to front one, the pic on the right is the original.

Re: Accrington Railway Station
Yes, you're right. If you look on the lefthand side of the middle picture, you can see "Accrington" the wrong way round on the station sign. However, the "correct" picture on the righthand side is confusing. The train is the wrong way round; it should be facing the other way towards Burnley.

Re: Accrington Railway Station
H453 SMOKEBOX NUMBERPLATE "90291" from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by North British Locomotive Co in 1944, Works No 25289, WD No 77419. It was loaned to the LNER from new, then to the GWR, recalled by the WD at the end of 1944 and loaned again to the LNER in 1947. It was purchased by BR in 1948 becoming 90291. Its later sheds were Newton Heath and Rose Grove from where it was withdrawn in February 1965. It was cut up three months later at Cashmores, Great Bridge. Front repainted. £603 ABIT OF HISTORY ABOUT THE STEAM LOCO IN THE PICTURE

Re: Accrington Railway Station
Here is one of Baxenden station I came across somewhere, hope I haven't 'half inched' it copyright or something. There is also one of the Shoe Mill signal box which looks to be very early 1900's.
