Captain George Edge

Captain Edge is briefly mentioned in 'Biographies of Noted Lancastrians' on here, but I think he deserves a thread of his own.

A ship's captain sailing from Cape Verde to New York in 1942, his ship was torpedoed and he took to a small boat with 15 crew. His leadership got them to land safely after 35 days at sea. Read about it on

No Accrington chap stands taller than Captain Edge

Re: Captain George Edge

If it's the same chap, lived on Blackburn Rd, next to Sacred Heart Church. Skipper on SS Patroclus; Blue Funnel Line in 1960.
Couldn't resolve the Link but if Medon is part of the story she was also Blue Funnel.
