Re: Name the stream

Never seen you up here yet? I'm hoping Garindas description of you are correct though, I'd hate to mistaken you for just another common garden gnome.

They might try and exhibit Tinks in the Time Tunnel exhibition....as one of the little fluffers of times gone by.

Many thanks to Katex and her colleagues for allowing us to have a look at this display. It really is a fantastic display and when it goes back up in Ossy Mills I recommend anyone with even the slightest bit of interest in local history, to go along and take a look.

Heres the pics :

Bagpuss and Dougie you will now bow at the feet of me ... the knowledgable one!

Re: Name the stream

She's wrote Antley Skye on that map with a biro this afternoon!!!!

Only joking, well done.

I remember looking at the same charts. They also had one which showed a prehistoric burial mound which is still visible on the horizon line of Ossy moors, if I remember correctly.

Can verify you would be joking, the excitement from these three when they found the name was mind boggling.

Loved every minute of this lunch hour in lovely company. Awakened my interest here, and will back back in the morning to give this display a good going over.

Thanks to Peter Hargreaves for getting them out for us and I loved the fact he loaned me the 130 year old key, with original Jacob's Lodge tag still attached for the sluice gates they put there to control the water flow.

That did cross my mind the first time I saw it.

I have to say even though you have found the name I am still far from being convinced that Antley Syke ran from Jacobs Lodge all the way to Hyndburn Rd. I will study your maps and see if I agree but I guess it's up to me now to prove you wrong.

Re: Name the stream

Right, I have this little theory.

You said Bagpuss that you think it's Springhil Clough, is the clough not just the wooded or areas with trees there and the Syke is the stream? I noticed a number of different Sykes and Cloughs on these maps today.

Does that make sense? What I'm trying to say is that we are actually both right ...... Springhill Clough is the wooded area that Antley Syke stream runs through.
