'Owd Trade Directory

This is from an 1820's Trade Directory, scanned at the University of Leicester. It's interesting in so far as it refers to Old & New Accy, and that Church, or Church Bank, appears to take precedence over Accy.

The Stag and several of our older hostelries get a mention.

Re: 'Owd Trade Directory

The other interesting thing is the fact that it note that a fair was held on the first Thursday in August. There was another fair too which was held in April. If the borough is as serious as it says it about attracting tourism to the borough then perhaps it is time HBC resurrected these two ancient fairs.

Also of note is the fact that the Honour of the Manor is held by the Duchess of Buccleauch. As far as I can make out, it was still held by the Duke as late as 1894. Buccleuch is one of the richest landowners in the country. If he still holds the honour then it might be of use to remind him of the fact.

Another interesting point is that although lots of different business's are to be found in Chuch, there is no Butchers.

Nowt's changed, then.
