Re: Papermill

I don't recall there ever being a paper mill in Ossy (my knowledge goes back to mid 40s).

White Ash was the site of a tip, and I recall my dad remarking how stupid it was to build houses on that site.

Just before your time Margarat
Will have to check my books, but it was short lived, and must have closed around 1880.

Re: Papermill

I don't think there's been any other than the Rishton one. Several in Blackburn area - Darwen, Feniscowles, Richmond St.

See this:

'Papermaking was introduced to Church and Oswaldtwistle from Darwen in the 1870s, and
also utilised some of the existing mill buildings. In Oswaldtwistle, White Ash Higher Mill
was converted to papermaking in 1875 (Rothwell 1993, 56) and the Church Paper
Company was established at Tomknitter Bridge bleachworks in 1875, but lasted only four
years.'

Re White Ash Paper Works.
Just been recording the military service of a Private Clemson of Union Rd, Oswaldtwistle, called up in 1915, it records his previous employer as, White Ash Paper Works, 12 years.
