Post Parker's farmhouse (cow hill lane) Rishton

This is a grade 2 Listed, (c.1600) Farmhouse owned by the Dunkenhalgh estate , part altered, now unoccupied. Thin coursed
sandstone (part rendered), stone slate roof with brick chimney on ridge
at junction of 2nd and 3rd bays, large projecting chimney stack at left
gable. Unusually complete example of 3-bay baffle-entry 2-storey house
with 2-storey gabled porch, and outshut stair turret at rear. Double-
chamfered stone mullion windows with hoodmoulds (most now blocked).
Porch at junction of 2nd and 3rd bays has studded board door with
fleur-de-lys hinges, in Tudor-arched doorway with moulded surround and
large lintel enclosed by a hoodmould, and hollow-moulded coping with
kneelers and seating for finials (missing).i think its on the English Heritage's "Buildings at Risk" register.

HISTORY: I've no history on this one.perhaps someone on here can come up with some?

ENJOY

Accyexplorer - have a look for the Yorkshire Vernacular Buildings Group. There iosn't a Lancashire equivalent but the group is run by a Lank, Kevin Illingworth. They come into Lancashire on raids. You will learn much from them

Re: Parker's farmhouse (cow hill lane) Rishton

See 'Old Homesteads of Accrington & District' by Ainsworth (1928) 7 pages & a pic......'Cowhil' is an eminence situate in the midst of Rishton township.....grey old Tudor buildings...similar in appearance to Higher Antley Hall, it has a long block with two-storeyed porch......home of the Hindle family...' Plenty on the families but not on the buildings.

I agree,I've 100s of pics (inside an out) of old decaying buildings in the local area.
Con club, cannon st baptist church, old band club to name but a few.
It brings a tear to my eye seeing these wonderful buildings just
rot away

Re: Parker's farmhouse (cow hill lane) Rishton

looks like it was a stunning building in its time,
its criminal what our authorities allow to happen to our historic buildings.
It says belonging to Dunkenhalgh estate,
I came across a George and Thomas Walmsley tenants of cowhouses , Accrington in 1527,
do you think it would be the same?
That would make them relatives of judge walmsley and why its under his estate?
