Sparth (old) and Sparth (new) HELP!

I'm looking for some help with the two Sparths - Nearer and Further Sparth as they were called. Nearer Sparth is the old farm house, previously called Sparth Manor, Sparth Farm and (as a pub was the Lynwood Arms) built in the 15th or 16th Century (seems to be a bit of conflict between websites with that date!) Then there's Further Sparth or, what is now, Sparth House. Sparth House was built in 1740 but there is reference to Further Sparth as far back as 1556 when it was sold by Ralph Rishton to Christopher Cunliffe. So my question is - was there an older house on the site of where Sparth House now stands?

Re: Sparth (old) and Sparth (new) HELP!

I found online the History of Clayton but from the Grimshaw line taken from the Trappes-Lomax book but it seems to only concentrate on the Grimshaw line really! But they have scanned the contents page of the book and it gives reference to Nearer and Further Sparth and families associated with them.

Re: Sparth (old) and Sparth (new) HELP!

There are lots of references to Sparth(s) in this book., published 1926. It has two folding plans - a 1790 one and a 1925 OS one. It is for sale, but the site rules do not permit me to tell you, so I will PM you
