Whats a Slubber?

I have been doing a bit of Family Research, and one of my ancestors, who comes from this area, is listed as having an occupation of a Slubber.It looks like it is connected with the weaving industry, but does anyone know what a Slubber actually did?

Spinning, not weaving.

Slubber - Prepared cotton for spinning, removing the "slubs" or imperfections in the yarn.

Ooh you beat me to it Sue.
Slubs are where the thickness of the weft is uneven....and it makes the woven article look like it has lumps in....a slubber takes these lumps out of the material.
I know because I used to be a weaver(before I took up nursing).
