Advertising "characters"

OK so we currently have the wonderful meerkats that have shot to fame but what other "characters" have become popular from adverts.

One that springs to mind for me is a balding bloke used to advertise cigarettes a number of years ago(Regal??) I dont smoke so it never stuck what brand it was), Can't recall "his" name but the campaign went on for ages, was quite funny and it was discussed that it was worrying the powers that be that it was making smoking attractive.

Over to you, what can you remember( and for the more 'elderly' members you might need to explain what the product was as well... )

Re: Advertising "characters"

I remember the Weetabix characters that were made up to be like a gang of skinheads. Must have been the early 80's.

Re: Advertising "characters"

There was an ad campaign for milk but there weren't any characters, as such, just straws that would march across the screen....they were called something like The Humphries.
