Accrington Grammar School Old Boys - Foreign language

The AGSOBs are running a scheme in which they invite pupils aged 11-18yrs of either sex to send a written application for funding to help them study a foreign language, either abroad or in the UK, This application should set out their case and give the name of a teacher who can be contacted to comment on it. Letters or emails should be received by the 30th April by the president, Geoff Lund at 13 Fordside Ave, Clayton BB5 5EH ( [email protected])

This should be appearing soon in the Observer and Telegraph. Letters have gone to each of the senior schools in Hyndburn

In recent years, we have given a laptop computer to a school, a cash prize to a pupil who wrote a local history essay and given to an organisation which provides cricket tuition to youngsters in schools. We want to associate ourselves with adding to the all-round education of local lads and lasses of senior school age.

Please post on here if this gets a mention in the local papers. Radio Lancashire have expressed interest in interviewing Geoff Lund, the president.

Re: Accrington Grammar School Old Boys - Foreign language

At least we will get some publicity, both on here, in the Observer and by word of mouth, hopefully raising awareness amongst the parents who have children who are already showing a flair for languages, and therefore there will be encouragement within families for the students to submit entries into this scheme.
Good luck to all who do enter.

Not for the first time, we have received little co-=operation from schools in setting up this scheme - we have been trying for some months so have gone ahead without them.We hope that some individual teachers will take an interest in it.
