Kipax, there is another option to diesel. I've been LPG for over 5 years now. I get equivilant to over 50 mpg from my 200bhp V70 Volvo estate.

Gordon Brown appears to hate LPG even more than he does diesel so LPG might not be a good option soon.

He would have to make a massive increase in duty on LPG to stop it being worthwhile. Even if it was a bit dearer than diesel to run I would prefer the power and smoothness of a lpg engine over an oil burner.

If it was dearer than diesel you would run LPG even though petrol is cheaper than diesel?

Re: Need to buy a car - any mechanics about?

Just bought a Ranault scenic. 1.9 Tdi .. the built in cooler box swung it for me. that and the misses circling it cooing..i like it.. i really like it... right in front of the salesman..tsk

i really wanted diesel and stuck to my guns... i had a really depressing time listening to salesman telling me the car i was interested in belonged to his mate (the mechanics) mum so its well looked after and other stupid stories i was meant to believe... cars that i really dodnt fancy but checked the boxes.... cars i did fancy but couldnt afford... hugh davies on burnley rd seems to be considered the best place in accy to buy a car by most mechanics... but nothing under 5k

finally got mine in penwortham after looking in far too many garages.. spotted this on the forecourt and when we left i said to julie... we didnt even look at all his other cars... we went straight for that and saw we wanted it..

3.5k spent and get 3mths warranty with curtousy car if needed. pick up in a week or so after its been giving a good going over..ooer

looks like alls well that ends well... BUT i have had to put my hand in my pocket and spend 1k of my own money to end up with a car.. and i had a perfectly good car before i was rearended.. so in reality i am 1k worse off
