Now that football is done ...

Ok, football is done for the year, at least the playing bit (I forsee another summer of discussion about where the high-priced talent will be next season) ... for all you sports fans with nothing to watch, how about looking thru the channels on your satellites and see if you can find HOCKEY The Stanley Cup finals are in full swing ... two really fine teams, the Detroit Redwings and the Pittsburgh Penguins are slugging it out (literally) in this best of seven finals .... Detroit have the home ice advantage. This means that 4 of the seven games will be in Detroit and 3 in Pittsburgh .... four games have been played and they are tied 2-2 .... this is really great hockey, and even if you are not really into the game or familiar with it, I predict that any sports fan will enjoy it .... think of it as mixed martial arts on ice .... great stuff: fast and hard hitting.

Lots of fun, eh .... these guys do not hold back ... I remember that when I first came to Canada, I fell in love with the game ... and back in those days the goalies did not wear protective masks ... one goalie, Eddie "Iron Man" Giacomin of the New York Rangers used to stop pucks with his face ... great stuff

thanks for that Eric...now I know that it's not only football that has gone but the whole meaning of life on earth is in jeopardy.

Life is meaningless .... but this is no time for philosophical debate .... there is hockey to watch .... and hockey's great thinker, Dave "Cement Head" Semenko has been retired for years

Re: Now that football is done ...

Ok hockey fans, tonight is the night ... game 6 in Pittsburgh .... Redwings ahead 3-2 in the series after winning the last game at the Joe Louis arena in Motown .... this is it ... if the Penguins win, it's back to Detroit for the 7th and final game .... if Detroit win, it's all over ... hope it goes to game 7, that will be a barn burner .... and for those who don't know it, all games go on till someone wins, no wimpy penalty shot crap here .... it's sudden death overtime (I think you guys call it the "golden goal" ... but, whatever, they battle on until the puck goes into someone's net. And in final games, the refs let a lot more go; so, for the fight fans among you ....

Re: Now that football is done ...

Game 6 is over .... and Pittsburgh took it 2-1. That leaves the series tied at 3-3, and so it's off to Detroit for game 7. This is it folks ... I realize that I'm partial to hockey, but this will be one hell of a game, and even those sports fans who don't appreciate the finer points of the game (the difference between roughing and aggravated assault for example) are in for a treat ....

Tonight is the night .... game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals is on tonight (7-30 ET) ... and I will probably going to be the only Accywebber watching .... but it will be a blast, and I'm off now to stack up on potent potables ... I'm cheering for the Pens, but Detroit is one tough team in their own barn.

Well, it's over; so, I won't have to bore you guys any more. But what a game! Pittsburgh took it 2-1 ... and what a fantastic save by Fleury in the dying seconds ... great game ... sorry you all probably missed it.
