Shirley Temple

Sad to hear of the death of Shirley Temple aged 85.Although aged only 4 she was such a draw at the box office that she saved Fox from bankruptcy in the 1930s! She retired at a very early age when she lost out to Judy Garland for the part of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.

Re: Shirley Temple

I used to love her films when I was little. It was only a few weeks ago I was watching Heidi. An indulgent afternoon taking me back to childhood. I hope they play some of her films on tv this week.

Re: Shirley Temple

She was a joy to watch. A real star. Her films brought so much happiness to us all. Even in her private life she shone. None of the shenanigans or bad behaviour that some of the present-day 'so-called' stars resort to.

My mother used to make me Shirley Temple dresses when I was a wee thing. Now THAT'S showing my age.....
