Re: Buying and Selling Forum question

You can put 200 quid, a potential buyer may only have 180 and think thats not enough, where the buyer may consider the offer

Same as bartering at shops, markets etc

I can see the point but a couple of threads in the buy/sell section have got a little 'silly' (but amusing!). Pie warmer springs to mind. All I'm saying is sometimes its not the sellers fault.

Also, I believe the seller on the PC thread was quite a newbie. I know the argument of newbies maybes shouldnt be able to sell stuff, but on the other hand, may put new members of when a simple thread goes a bit haywire

In the past we have had threads which have got out of hand in a sort of bidding war. I was selling some CDs once, stated a price and accepted a buyer but then another member came on and posted a higher offer, the original would-be purchaser topped that offer and then moderators complained that this was not an auction site. It turned out that the second 'bidder' was messing around anyway and didn't even want the CDs and in the end the whole thread degenerated into a farce.

It was categorically stated then that the sales should be on a first come first served basis. So if somebody offers an item for say £10 and somebody offers to pay the £10 then that is sold, done and dusted and no room for 'higher bids'. If however, someone says "ONO" and gets an offer of £8 there is room for someone else to offer £9.

As for the PMs. Well I recently responded to an item for sale by posting that I was sending a PM. The PMs contain personal information such as phone numbers and addresses which people do not wish to disclose on the open forum. I hope you can understand that.

Once a deal has been done on the forum then a PM concerning addresses or whatever is quite acceptable. A deals should be done on the forum.

Re: Buying and Selling Forum question

I suppose it's up to the administration but if you answer a classified ad in the newspaper you don't do it through the paper do you? You phone the seller direct. As long as the seller lets people know in the thread that the item is sold I see no problem with it being done via PM. It's never bothered me.
