Hi, can I just ask a question. Why is it that any old photo of Accrington posted on the site has the words :
accyweb.com in the bottom right hand corner?

Re: Copyright

It isn't a copyright, its just a watermark advertising the site in case the picture is linked elsewhere and uses our bandwidth.

Re: Copyright

i should imagine that this will get deleted as did my last ( where is free speech when you need it most eh ?)

but ponder this

once you have entered a photo into a competition - you are not allowed to delete it
apparently accyweb does not take ownership of your photos - but wont let you delete them if you enter
contradiction in terms if you ask me

The answer being do not enter your photo, you make the choice and it costs you nothing. If you pay to the upkeep of the forum then you can complain otherewise put up and shut up

well i didnt know you couldnt as i couldnt find it in the rules where it should be clearly stated - i have asked politely and through a couple more pms after that and in the end had to replace them with a pooey sign
i am not meaning to be offensive and i have obviously touched a nerve
i wont enter again now that i know you cant delete once votes have gone through and i wouldnt have uploaded had i had that info in the first place
so wind ya neck in - i just think that if it isnt anissue why isnt it CLEARLY stated in the rules? that is all.
the following link was one i read when i joine dthe forum and i dont remember the bit about photos being for keeps
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f...mer-29681.html

Well you say it isn't an issue but you obviously turned it into one didn't you?

Why you would feel a need to remove a photo that you voluntarily entered into the competition is beyond me.

Then when you couldn't have your own way you,

This will now make all the competitions you entered look tacky therefore you have ruined the site for others that enjoy entering and viewing the competitions on a regular basis.

I hope somehow that the mods can do something to ensure that you can't enter into any more competitions put on site, after all you have punished the regular members by ruining their Competition Gallery, so in all fairness you should be rewarded for being so mean.

Re: Copyright

like i said less if the bit about pictures being for keeps when they are in a competition was there when i first read the forum rules- then i wouldnt have entered - i only saw the bit about the gallery and the bit about competitions definitely wasnt there -
i dont want to enter any more because i do not agree to the terms and conditions of the contests - holding a copyright also means you have a say as to where your picture is displayed - i should imagine that if it actually came down to it then absolutely refusing to delete pics and taking away that option for the person making the "piece" was infringing upon a copyright law -

as for ruining the Site that others enjoy - come on get a grip

my main reason for taking down the pics- one of my puppy pics was on a site called istockphoto changed to black and white and only low resolution size.
i had to prove that it was mine by providing my exif data from the original file - and about 6-8 e-mails later finally got it removed.
maybe it was a guest maybe a non member - i dont care i decided to tkae my pictures down and it was refused - so i replaced them - live with it

and i didnt say it wasnt an issue- but i think that accyweb mods are trying hide the fact that you cant delete your pics-as they wont get as many people entering perhaps (although i dont think people are less likely to enter i just think they would choose more carefully) if they arent hiding the fact then why isnt it clearly displayed at the beginning of a comp thread? that is basically all that i am asking - suggesting - whatever you want to say i am doing - just make the info clear

Re: Copyright

No copyright law has been violated by refusing to delete your pictures. You voluntarily chose to share & enter your photographs into a competition on a public forum.

Asking for the pictures to be deleted would cause continuity problems in the gallery and could possibly cause errors in the database, especially if you had won one of the competitions or had any votes registered against them.

The Photo competitions are only a bit of fun not a serious thing if its going to cause these problems then they might as well be stopped.

I think that would be a great shame, it's only for fun...supposedly.

I don't have that many photographs, but when I have entered the competition I fully understand that they will remain on Accy Web, just like anything we post does, or if I'd sent off a photograph to a competition in a magazine.

Could you not just upload the photo's in to a thred and run a poll via the thred, you may get more votes/entrants also that way?

Say Via Photo Bucket. - Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

Then the owner of the pics has the right to remove/delete/edit as they feel appropriate.

As its only a bit of fun, just delete the olds thred after a month or so anyway.

As a extra bonus its less use of forum bandwith to. (well I think it would be)?

I can see the point in a way that the owner of the pic should be able to remove it if they require.

Re: Copyright

We've known all along that if you enter a photo in the competition you cant delete it - you have to ask the mods if they will delete it and they will look into it. Yes that has happened with me and yes it was deleted. Its on the first competition thread by KSH when he ran them at first.

Re: Copyright

All the photos you had entered into the competitions can be found here. Anyone can copy your photos from your site as they are not water marked with your name etc.

If your photo had of been copied from the accyweb gallery then the photo would have had the accyweb watermark on it thus making it difficult for anyone to pass it off as there own. So obviously the copied image must have come from your own site and not accyweb.

You suggest that it may have been a guest of the accyweb gallery that may have copied your image and used it as their own. Well I can tell you that the competition albums from the numbers 29 onwards are not viewable by guests ‘apart from #31’ as it was decided way back then to disallow guest from viewing the competition albums. So in your opinion, it must have been one of our accyweb members thats done the dirty. lol

I agree with everyone else. You did ruin Margaret Pilkington’s competition #30. “Portraits....people...interesting people”. As it turned out, your image had won by 6 votes.
Sadly though, with your moment of madness those six members have basically wasted there votes by voting for your ‘now not existing’ photo whereas they could have voted for others ‘whom may have shown more appreciation’ and altered the outcome of the results.

If you really were concerned about being able to delete your entries from the photo competitions and you couldn’t find anything within the rules then you could have asked one of us, before taking part.
I don’t believe you were concerned, all this is an after thought.

All I can say is............ Well done.
